A reminder for all the ladies who have participated in the Secret Sister ministry for the past several months. There will be a SECRET SISTER REVEAL PARTY this coming Monday, June 8, at 4:00 PM. Don’t miss finding out who’s been blessing you all this time!

If you aren’t currently a part of the Secret Sisters, please keep an ear out for when this fun and meaningful ministry will start up again. It’s a great way to connect and encourage one another.

It’s June 1 already, but we still have one more important local organization to highlight for May’s missions focus: our very own Joy Christian Preschool.

Their Mission:
Joy Christian Preschool and Kindergarten exists, in partnership with parents and the local church, to provide a loving, nurturing, Christ-centered environment of discovery and learning for preschoolers. Children will be treated as precious creations of God, each with unique talents, interests, and needs.

The preschool staff, rooted in a personal relationship with Jesus, seeks to lay the foundation that will encourage each child to become a disciple of Christ as well as lifelong learners.

The second local organization we are highlighting for this month’s missions focus is Nourish Pierce County, Tacoma, WA.

Their Mission:
To provide nutritious food and support services to people in need with compassion, dignity and respect

Their Vision:
Creating pathways from scarcity to security.

Highlights of their accomplishments in 2025:
-Nourish operated 6 brick and mortar sites and 17 mobile food bank sites.
-Nourish served 65,070 unique guests, half of which were seniors and children.
-Nourish served 6 million meals and distributed over 5 million pounds of food.
-Nourish had 588 volunteers who served 37,072 hours.

About Nourish:
After visiting a Nourish Food Bank, Debbie shares her story of going through a challenging time and the difference that she experienced for her and her family after visiting Nourish. “This is a godsend. What we get here lets us know that we are going to have enough food to last a week or so.” She is just one of 9,000 households to depend on Nourish each month. The mission of Nourish is to provide nutritious food and support services to people in need with compassion, dignity and respect. Debbie’s experience reflects the aim of Nourish beautifully, “It’s a nice community. We always talk and when somebody’s not here we worry about them or try to find out what’s happening and if we can help.” It’s more than just giving people food. It’s valuing their humanity.” Nourish lives out this mission by allowing each one of the 60,000+ people served in 2017 to shop for his or her own food with dignity. Each food bank is set up like a grocery store, lined with pasta and fresh produce. The staff and volunteers show respect for a client’s privacy by not asking too many invasive questions. And people experience compassion by knowing that no one will be turned away hungry.

That value flows into Nourish’s vision of – creating security from scarcity. And it provides a framework for our programs. Nourish emphasizes nutritious food and helping clients to learn how to cook healthy meals, so that people are empowered to make healthy choices, regardless of whether they continue to receive their food from a food bank. Nourish also helps clients move to a more stable future by providing information on housing, medical support, government subsidies, and community resources. Residents of Pierce County can visit one of the many Nourish food banks and walk away with food to feed their families and an opportunity for a better life.

For our missions focus this month, we are highlighting 3 local organizations. First up is Step By Step, located in Puyallup, WA.

Ways they are impacting our local community:

-Increasing Prenatal & Infant Health

-Lowering Infant & Maternal Mortality Rates

-Breaking Cycles of Poverty & Abuse

-Decreasing Dependence on Social Systems

-Building Stronger & Safer Communities

For over 26 years, Step By Step has helped thousands of families in our community, giving babies a healthy start and moms the skills they need to thrive.

As a Washington State First Steps provider, we offer both Maternity Support Services and Infant Case Management, using a holistic approach that includes home visits from registered nurses, licensed counselors, and registered dietitians.

We recognize that to build strong families, moms need to have their needs met–physically, mentally, and socially. We’re proud to offer mental health support groups, crisis and homelessness prevention services, job training, educational scholarships, and peer mentorship, while also fulfilling tangible needs such as car seats, strollers, and food.

In addition to funding from government organizations, grants, and generous community members, Step By Step is supported by our own social enterprises, Farm 12 and Fika. Based in Puyallup, our restaurant, event space, and coffee shop are vibrant community gathering places where we come together to support Step By Step financially and through our Dreams Work job training program.
