Then the seventh angel sounded; and there were loud voices in heaven, saying,
“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ; and He will reign forever and ever.”
And the twenty-four elders, who sit on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying,
“We give You thanks, O Lord God, the Almighty, who are and who were, because You have taken Your great power and have begun to reign. And the nations were enraged, and Your wrath came, and the time came for the dead to be judged, and the time to reward Your bond-servants the prophets and the saints and those who fear Your name, the small and the great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”
And the temple of God which is in heaven was opened; and the ark of His covenant appeared in His temple, and there were flashes of lightning and sounds and peals of thunder and an earthquake and a great hailstorm (Revelation 11:15-19)

The first six trumpets introduce plagues on the earth. There is great destruction, torment, and death. The seventh trumpet is different. This final trumpet should not be confused with “the last trumpet” of the rapture of the church. Long before any of these events, “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed” (1 Corinthians 15:52). That trumpet announces the Church joining our Savior in the air to be with Him forever (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).

The seventh trumpet announces the Rightful King taking His throne over the kingdom. The kingdom of the earth (no longer “kingdoms” plural) becomes the kingdom of Jesus Christ and “He will reign forever and ever.”

Even here we see the continued opposition to God. “The nations were enraged.” Not all willingly submit to the Rightful King. But the time of judgment comes. “The judgment of the dead” separates the servants of the Lord from those who remain in rebellion.

The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, so as not to worship demons, and the idols of gold and of silver and of brass and of stone and of wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk; and they did not repent of their murders nor of their sorceries nor of their immorality nor of their thefts (Revelation 9:20-21).

The seventh seal revealed the seven trumpets. The first six of these each released a plague upon the earth.
Hail and fire burn up one-third of the trees and all of the grass (8:7)
A burning mountain turns one-third of the sea into blood, killing one-third of sea life (8:8-9).
The star Wormwood falls on the rivers, making one-third of the fresh waters toxic (8:10-11).
The sun, moon, and stars are struck, making day and night darker by one-third (8:12).
Creatures like locusts come to torment all who don't have the seal (9:1-11).
A vast army from the East kills one-third of the people (9:13-21).

After all of this, it is hard to imagine that the remaining people still would not turn to God. Or is it? When we consider the plagues of Egypt, and how Pharaoh repeatedly hardened his heart, we think, “why didn't he learn his lesson?” But prideful rebellion from God is a powerful part of the sin nature. We want to be in control.

Dying to self and living in Christ is the way of Salvation.
Through God's grace, we have eternal hope!
But unfortunately, as Scripture tells us, there will always be some who remain in stubborn rebellion.

When the Lamb broke the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them. Another angel came and stood at the altar, holding a golden censer; and much incense was given to him, so that he might add it to the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, went up before God out of the angel’s hand. Then the angel took the censer and filled it with the fire of the altar, and threw it to the earth; and there followed peals of thunder and sounds and flashes of lightning and an earthquake.
And the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound them (Revelation 8:1-6).

The first six seals had each brought terrible judgments on the earth. Now the seventh seal would introduce seven trumpets, each initiating another event. But before this began, there was “silence in heaven for about half an hour.” The judgements had already been paused for the sealing of the 144,000 and the worship of the tribulation saints (ch 7). The silence would have been a vast contrast to the scene that preceded it. A “great multitude” had been “crying out in a loud voice” (7:9-10). Now, all was quiet, until an angel threw a censer with fire to the earth, and thunder and lightning introduced the next wave of judgment.

The incense offering was a time of solemn silence. And the revelation of the seventh scroll brought awe and expectation. The loud worship is hushed, as all await the powerful hand of the Lord

Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, “These who are clothed in the white robes, who are they, and where have they come from?” I said to him, “My lord, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. For this reason, they are before the throne of God; and they serve Him day and night in His temple; and He who sits on the throne will spread His tabernacle over them. They will hunger no longer, nor thirst anymore; nor will the sun beat down on them, nor any heat; for the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and will guide them to springs of the water of life; and God will wipe every tear from their eyes.” (Revelation 7:13-17)

After the first six seals were open, there was a pause in the judgments. 144,000 from the tribes of Israel received the seal of God (3-4) Then John saw, “great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands” (9).

When one of the elders asked him who they were, John admitted he did not know. So the elder told him. These had come out of the tribulation. These people from every nation had been washed by the blood of the Lamb after the rapture of the Church. And they had endured the horrible events of the tribulation. And they worship around the throne. They will enjoy God's protection and presence forever.

The promise to these tribulation saints reflects the peace and security that all who trust in the Lord will share. “They will hunger no longer, nor thirst anymore; nor will the sun beat down on them, nor any heat; for the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and will guide them to springs of the water of life; and God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”

I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; and the stars of the sky fell to the earth, as a fig tree casts its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind. The sky was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. Then the kings of the earth and the great men and the commanders and the rich and the strong and every slave and free man hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains; and they *said to the mountains and to the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; for the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?” (Revelation 6:12-17)

In John's vision, he sees the Lamb open the seven seals. The first four revealing the four horsemen. The rider on a white horse came to conquer. Many believe this is the Antichrist. The next three horsemen bring war, famine, and death (2-8).
The fifth seal reveals the martyrs calling out for justice (9-11).

When the sixth seal is open, great catastrophe comes on the earth. There is a great earthquake, the moon becomes like blood, mountains and islands are moved. This is devastation like never seen before. The event strikes fear and is the great equalizer of people. The powerless and the powerful alike hide in fear and even beg the mountains and rocks to fall on them and hide them from God's wrath.

The judgment of God on the wicked will be severe and inescapable.
But those who trust in the Lord will not face this devastation.
Forgiveness through the blood of Christ places our name in the Book of Life.
And before this time of tribulation, we will meet our Lord in the air (1 Thessalonians 4:17).

Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders; and the number of them was myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice,
“Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.”
And every created thing which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all things in them, I heard saying,
“To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.”
And the four living creatures kept saying, “Amen.” And the elders fell down and worshiped (Revelation 5:11-14).

John saw this incredible vision of heaven. This was a vast display of worship. The word “myriad” literally meant ten thousand. But it was used figuratively to indicate a number too large to count. So “myriads of myriads” was a an incredibly vast crowd of angels, along with “the living creatures and the elders.” John had described four living creatures and twenty-four elders who stood before the throne (4:4-8).
They all gave glory to the Lamb. They worshipped the Lord, giving all blessing, honor, dominion, and glory forever.
It is hard to even imagine the glorious worship in heaven.
Here we get a glimpse.

As we continue to walk with the Lord in this life, may we continue to worship Him.
He is worthy!

“To the angel of the church in Ephesus write:
The One who holds the seven stars in His right hand, the One who walks among the seven golden lampstands, says this:
‘I know your deeds and your toil and perseverance, and that you cannot tolerate evil men, and you put to the test those who call themselves apostles, and they are not, and you found them to be false; and you have perseverance and have endured for My name’s sake, and have not grown weary. But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lampstand out of its place—unless you repent (Revelation 2:1-5).

The first church that Jesus has John write to is Ephesus. He commends them for their perseverance, and He says that they have done well to identify false teachers. But they have a problem. The Lord says they have “left [their] first love.” Apparently, the passion they had shown at the beginning had fizzled out. Now they were merely going through the motions.

This is a challenge for us all. We like to find a comfortable groove where we can just coast (if that's not too much of a mixed metaphor). Considering God's great love and mercy for us, we come to Him with a strong desire to worship and serve. But, over time, we get comfortable and complacent.

The challenge is to “remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first…” This means to remember our devotion and turn back to it.

Have we left our first love?
He calls us to return!

When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. And He placed His right hand on me, saying, “Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last, and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades. Therefore write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after these things (Revelation 1:17-19).

When John saw the glorified Lord, it was an amazing sight. He did his best to put it in words: long robe, golden sash, white hair, flaming eyes, glowing feet, and a voice “like the sound of many waters” (13-15). John even describes a “sharp two-edged sword” coming out of His mouth (16). But this description can only take the reader so far. When John saw Him, he was struck by fear. He “fell at His feet like a dead man.” John had seen some amazing things in his life. He was one of Jesus’ closest followers. But this vision overwhelmed him.

The Lord reassured John. And He gave a great declaration of who He is:

The first and the last: He was with the Father in the beginning, and is eternal.
The living One,
He was dead: He died on a cross for our sins
But He lives forevermore: He rose again and ascended to glory.
He holds the keys of death and Hades: He has all authority over death

Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints. For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ (Jude 1:3-4).

Jude's original intent was to write about salvation in Christ. But the importance of a warning took precedence. We see many warnings against false teachers in the New Testament because it was a real threat to the Church. And it still is. Here Jude warns against teachings of what some call “hyper-grace.” This is the idea that, since we are saved by grace, anything goes. “Licentiousness” is free reign (think license to do whatever). But viewing God's grace this way denies the lordship of Christ. To call Him Master and Lord is to submit to Him.

We are saved by grace through faith.
We walk with the Lord and grow closer to Him.
These two truths combine in the life of the believer

Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith (1 John 5:1-4).

When we love someone we want to serve them. To love God is to submit to Him willingly. It is not a burden to submit, because it is done out of love. Observing His commandments and loving His children are not acts of earning something (we can't earn what He bought for us), but a demonstration of faith.

The world may challenge this love, but faith overcomes the world!
