Rolling Rocks for Hope
This event is two days of gaming with the purpose of raising money and awareness for the prevention of su***de.
This event is built off of a similar event: Jasper's Day for Dungeons and Dragons. It is a way of utilizing fun activities to bring people together for an important cause.
We will have board games and role playing games (RPG) to participate in. The event will take place at St. Paul's and begin on Friday, August 26 at 6 pm and run until midnight. The game will resume on Saturday, August 27 at 11am and continue until 10pm.
You can support this event in a few different ways:
Come join us and have a great time playing games
Donate directly to Jasper's Day (hhtps://jaspersgameday.com/)
Donate baked goods or snacks for those playing games
Share your story anonymously. There will be a table set up where I will put the stories of others. No names. No judgement. Just a place that allows people who feel alone to know they are not.
Remember someone. Another table will be set up as a memorial to remember those who are missed but not forgotten. Those who have been left with loss need to share their stories as well.
The Featured Game
While there will be lots of games being played through the event there is one game different from the rest. The Featured story will be played out over both days, which means it starts at 6pm on Friday the 26th and won’t be done 11pm on the 27th. Each of the 3 hour play sessions is a different chapter in the same story with the same characters.
The game is called “Living the Past.” It is a game that mashes two types of settings. First, is known as “kids on bikes” which is inspired by the movie types of Goonies, E.T. and, more recently, Stranger Things. This genre is focused on kids who can’t drive yet so they ride bikes and face impossible odds yet win in the end. This is smashed into the Marvel Superhero setting, which means both themes of the settings will be explored as people play. We will be playing Pastor’s favorite system, Genesys.
You start off as an 11 year old sent to a camp that does not allow electronic devices. You love electronic devices but is also why your parents are sending you to this camp. They believe you spend too much time playing video games and not enough time interacting with humanity. Luckily, you can bring your favorite comic books to read. This is the only positive of the situation according to how your character thinks. The adventure starts shortly after you arrive at camp.
You may be thinking that is way too complicated! Or that you can’t play for two days or you don’t know this system. However, don’t worry because:
- The story is written to teach anyone the system
- All you need to bring is yourself and your imagination
- Characters are already created
- You will be guided in making changes to that character is simple fun ways.
- All of the dice will be prepared, but if you would like you can download a free Genesys dice app.
- No one but the DM (Pastor Lutz) will be playing the whole time. Players will sign up for 3 hours playing slots.
-There are sheets in the back of church to sign up for time slots to play. You can sign up or email Pastor Tom Lutz at [email protected]. Please put “Time Slot Sign Up” in the subject line. It will be first come first serve.
· The important thing will be to just come and have fun raising money for su***de prevention and awareness.
Hope to see you sitting at the table as we tell a great story together!
