Psalm 67 - As God's Face Shines Upon us, Let us call the Nations to Worship

Though storms rage within and around us, we have the assurance that our God, the Mighty Fortress, still rules and reigns on heaven’s throne. Our deepest fears may become reality, but Jesus is still kind and strong. A tempest may suddenly come upon us, which may cause us to doubt the graciousness of God, but through it all, the priestly blessing still applies to those who are in covenant with God: The Lord blesses us and causes His face to shine upon us. With God’s face shining upon us, we call others to join us in giving praise to Christ.

Join us this Sunday at 10:00am as we worship our Lord and Savior.

“Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” That verbiage, though spoken differently in various seasons, is the constant anthem of the believer’s heart. This chorale, a constant reminder that we need to run to Jesus, gives the Christian a hope that only they can experience, for there is no hope in the worldly. As we traverse this world, we have the promise that our Savior loves us, keeps us, and promises to bring us home.

"Watching a service online may help us learn, but it cannot replace the spiritual nourishment that comes from gathering with the people of God... Worship is not an individualistic event. It’s not about what “I get out of it.” It’s a covenantal act between God and his people. The local church is where we experience this most deeply."

The incarnation of Christ reminds us that physical presence matters. He touched lepers. He wept with friends. He broke bread at the table. His ministry was not virtual—it was deeply human.

Times of calamity, distress, and despair will, at times, overcome our souls, but throughout it all Christ remains our anchor, giving us the greatest assurance.

“Curse God and die,” declared Job’s wife. Job responded, “Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?” In Psalm 88, the man has come to the end of his rope. He feels so separated from God that all he sees is death. Life has become a bleak tomb for his soul. He cries out, yet there is no response. In these times, we can either respond with discontent, like Job’s wife, or we can trust that the light and love of Christ is near, like Job. How shall we respond to afflictions, trials, tribulations, and sufferings?

Join us this Sunday at 10:00am as we journey through Psalm 88, seeing that Christ is with us in the darkest seasons of life.

Starting this Sunday, we will take a four-week hiatus from our sermons in the Gospel of John. Over these next few weeks, we will have a sermon series entitled, “God is a Mighty Fortress: Remembering the Goodness of Christ in Seasons of Darkness.”

If we were honest, these dark seasons come more often, quicker, and harder than we could ever envision. Within months, weeks, days, hours, or even minutes, the Son’s beaming rays of joy turned to a darkness so black that your soul could not see anything, let alone the glorious riches, compassion, and tenderness of Christ Jesus. In a moment, God’s great throne of grace and mercy fled light-years away.

In this series, we will journey through four Psalms with an intentional focus. The purpose will be to remind us that God is our Mighty Fortress (Psalm 46), even in times of great calamity (Psalm 88), and in those trying times we call out to our Rock (Psalm 61), trusting He will make His face shine upon us (Psalm 67).

If you find yourself in a season of despair, consider joining us for this series. Christ is the great Light when the dark thunderstorms overwhelm our souls.
