This Sunday in our series "Right Side Up," we'll look at Matthew 5:21–26. This section begins Jesus' use of the recurring phrase, "You have heard that it was said, but I say to you." It is important to note that Jesus is not critiquing the Old Testament Word through this phrase but rather the Pharisees' interpretation of it. Jesus' goal through this passage is to reveal the "heart" of the law. We are also reminded that God sees the heart. Our "outward acts of righteousness" do not have much value when we are harboring sin on the inside. You are encouraged to read and reflect on this passage prior to Sunday's message.
