There's a strange way people excuse dishonesty. It wasn't a big lie, it wasn't the whole truth, it was just a little fudged. Scripture has a word for that kind of manipulation: guile. Peter tells us there was no guile found in Christ's mouth. He never twisted words, never shaded the truth to protect Himself.

Telling the truth is actually the easier path, even though it doesn't always feel that way in the moment. A lie has to be remembered, defended, and eventually covered with another lie, until the whole thing becomes a tangle nobody can keep straight. The truth never requires that kind of upkeep.

Jesus modeled something simple and costly at the same time. He told the truth, even when it would have been easier not to. Following His steps means refusing to manipulate the truth for our own comfort or advantage, trusting that honesty, even when it costs something, is always the better way.

Outreach is tonight at 6:30 PM!

We’ll be going out into our community to share the Gospel, pass out tracts, and invite families to our upcoming VBS and Teen Explosion.

If you’ve never come before, this is a great night to start! Come early and we’ll pair you with an experienced member so you’re not going out alone.

Pray with us that God will open doors and hearts as we go!

Children learning to write don't stay inside the dotted lines on their first try. They wobble, they miss the mark, and they keep practicing until the letters take shape. That's exactly the picture Peter paints when he says Christ left us an example to follow in His steps. The original picture was a copybook children traced to learn handwriting, and it's a fitting image for the Christian life.

Nobody becomes a Christian and instantly has it all figured out. There's no perfect Christian anywhere in Scripture. Every one of them stumbled, missed the lines, and got it wrong more than once. What set them apart wasn't perfection, it was persistence. They didn't quit when they failed. They tried again.

That's the call here. Following Christ isn't about getting it right the first time, the fifth time, or even the tenth time. It's about staying in the practice of following Him, trusting that the more we follow, the more we're shaped into His likeness. Growth comes through the trying, not around it.

Israel knew what was right. They had seen God work throughout their history, they understood His standard, and they chose to ignore it anyway. That kind of complacency in someone who knows the truth is a serious warning, and it is one that applies directly to the church today.
We have the completed Word of God. We know what it says. The question is whether knowing it is actually moving us to do anything. Complacency is the enemy of growth. When a people who are blessed and secure start to feel exempt from responsibility, they stop growing, stop obeying, and stop taking the urgency of the moment seriously. Christians today do not have to meet in secret. We are not hiding in a basement. And yet that freedom can quietly become an excuse for treating faith like a box already checked. Israel's privilege did not protect them from the consequences of their complacency. There is every reason to take that seriously right now.

The book of Amos makes something plain: nations are accountable to God. Israel was a blessed nation, chosen and favored, and yet that blessing did not exempt them from God's standard. The same principle applies to America, to the church, and to every individual believer.

God's blessing on a church is never about the pastor or the staff. It is the mercy and grace of an Almighty God, and with that comes accountability. What is true for a nation is true for a congregation, and what is true for a congregation is true for you personally. Just because someone carries the name Christian does not mean they are exempt from God's expectations. Israel learned that the hard way. The question Amos forces us to ask is whether we are truly honoring what God has given us, or whether we have quietly started to assume we are untouchable.

It is easy to make unjust treatment all about yourself. When someone wrongs you at work, the natural response is to focus on your rights, your feelings, and your frustration. But Scripture calls believers to a completely different perspective.

Peter reminds us that we are strangers and pilgrims here. This world is not our home. Because of that, the way we respond to authority, even difficult and unfair authority, is not really about us at all. It is about God. A Christ-like spirit in how you respond honors God's authority and reflects something the world simply does not expect to see. Our culture pushes rebellion against employers, parents, and leaders. Christians are called to demonstrate a different spirit entirely, one rooted in the understanding that we are here to honor God, not to win an argument.
