There's a strange way people excuse dishonesty. It wasn't a big lie, it wasn't the whole truth, it was just a little fudged. Scripture has a word for that kind of manipulation: guile. Peter tells us there was no guile found in Christ's mouth. He never twisted words, never shaded the truth to protect Himself.
Telling the truth is actually the easier path, even though it doesn't always feel that way in the moment. A lie has to be remembered, defended, and eventually covered with another lie, until the whole thing becomes a tangle nobody can keep straight. The truth never requires that kind of upkeep.
Jesus modeled something simple and costly at the same time. He told the truth, even when it would have been easier not to. Following His steps means refusing to manipulate the truth for our own comfort or advantage, trusting that honesty, even when it costs something, is always the better way.
