Third Haven Friends Meeting

Third Haven Friends Meeting Third Haven Friends Meeting is an historic Quaker Meeting that has unprogrammed Meetings for Worship (Sundays 10AM and Weds. 5:30PM) where all are welcome!

We, who have been called Seekers of the Truth, Quakers, and Friends, are members of the Religious Society of Friends. We are a close-knit religious community, but we do not separate ourselves from the world about us. We believe God is present in every person and that peace is preferable to war. We gather in silent communal worship to wait on the Spirit of God. We have no formal creed, no ritual, d

ogma, nor liturgy. Instead, to help us follow Divine guidance we pose, both individually and corporately, searching queries; we strive in love, rather than react to fear; we work towards peace because we believe it is the only way; we are led to implement our concerns for the equal rights of all. Many of us have been drawn to this religion—Quakerism—because of its dual commitment to Spiritual awareness and social action. These beliefs are not always easy to hold nor honor with action, but our search has led us to commit ourselves to them. Perhaps this approach of Friends could be helpful and meaningful to you. We invite you to accept our invitation to search with us at this and any other meeting house or place. If you wish, please come to join with us for worship 10:00 AM on Sundays and 5:30 PM on Wednesday evenings. Your children are also welcome either at Meeting for Worship or First Day School.

Let's be clear. Those being terrorized by Pres. Trump's mass detention & deportation campaign are not "criminals."

They are loving parents. Sons. Daughters. Sisters. Brothers. Seeking refuge and opportunity. Working hard. Contributing to our country and communities.

They are our neighbors.

Today, Philadelphia Yearly Meeting joined our neighbors in New England and Baltimore Yearly Meetings, as plaintiffs in a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

This lawsuit is in response to one of the many actions the new administration took last week, specifically to rescind a longstanding policy that prevented U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement from entering places of worship. As a result, people may avoid going to their houses of worship for fear of government enforcement. This injures immigrants who may stay home instead of worshiping with their spiritual communities. It also injures the spiritual communities who will lose the ability to worship with all who share the Light.

Friends,
While the driveways and pathways at Meeting are passable, they remain treacherous because of the alternate thawing and freezing and last night’s snowfall.

We have decided to hold Meeting for Worship via Zoom. There will be NO in-person meeting at Third Haven.

Meeting for Business will be moved to the following First Day, January 19, so we may all attend in person.

PARKING FOR SUNDAY MEETING FOR WORSHIP: Due to extremely dry conditions and abundance of leaves here at THFM you are asked to use caution where you park your car and park on gravel surfaces; the residual heat underneath a vehicle can easily ignite leaves and lead to an emergency.

Efforts are ongoing Saturday to alleviate the leaves, but they continue to fall at a fast pace.

03/23/2024

Due to the storm Saturday and the saturated grounds, those coming to First Day Meeting are advised to not park on the grass. You may become stuck easily and damage the property. Please park on the gravel.

Looking for a special opportunity for your children to get outside this summer?

Look no further. Third Haven Friends Meeting (the Quakers) and instructors Cherie Baron and Kristen Hanlon are teaming up to offer a weeklong Outdoor Mindfulness camp. This popular camp blends mindfulness and nature play for children, located on the tranquil grounds of Third Haven grounds located at 405 South Washington Street in Easton.

Each morning will be spent with the talented instructors in nature with friends as it was meant to be experienced: in a full body, hands-on, messy-play way. Activities will include exploration of the six key tenets of Quakerism: Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality and Stewardship while immersing your child in the joys of the outdoors.

This outdoor camp is offered for 5-12 year olds, Monday through Thursday, June 26 through 29. Two sessions are offered: morning from 9AM to 11:30PM, and afternoon from 1PM to 3:30PM. Pick which session works best for you! The cost is $100 per child, per session, with limited space available.

For more information or to register, please contact Susan Claggett at 410-200-6345 or [email protected]. Flyer and registration packet available on our website here: https://www.thirdhaven.org/fds_summercamp2023.php

An Open Letter to the Talbot Community from Faith Leaders:

We write to extend our sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the recent mass murders in Buffalo, NY and in Uvalde, TX. We are horrified that so many innocent lives were lost in just moments. We surround those grieving with light and love. We are called upon to do more than offer words. In the US, violent acts at schools, grocery stores, houses of worship, and other public spaces happen over and over again. It does not need to be this way. The brutal mass murder at the grocery store in Buffalo was a blatantly racist act directed at African Americans. Racism is deeply rooted in our society. Racist violence is fueled when leaders and pundits espouse division and hate with their rhetoric and lies, and is amplified when misinformation spreads on social media platforms. When racism is combined with ready access to assault weapons the results are deadly. It is a recipe for tragedy again and again. In Uvalde, we know the victims at the elementary school shooting were vulnerable children and teachers. While we do not yet know the motivation of the shooter, he identified with the ubiquitous culture of violence and had ready access to weapons. Violence happens when we lose sight of our shared humanity. Violence recurs when the roots of discrimination, bigotry and hate are not challenged. Violence becomes a norm when we believe it is inevitable. A common thread across our faith traditions is the belief that all are worthy and that we have a collective responsibility for one another. As we look around our community, we find hope in the increasing willingness to be honest about our local challenges. There are no miracle 'fixes' to patterns of systemic racism and violence. In part we need to live into the rules and policies already in place. Where changes to policies are needed, we need to make the changes now. We need to change hearts and attitudes that privilege some over others. These violent tragedies do not need to continue. They are not inevitable. As President Biden said in his address to the country this week, “When in God's name will we do what we all know in our gut needs to be done?” As we extend our love to all in Buffalo and Uvalde and the many others impacted by violence, may we recommit to work together to create a community and country where all are valued, respected and safe.
