We are beginning a study of the Letters of the Apostle John

I John 1:1-2 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of Life, (for the Life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested into us)

What a way to begin – the Lord as LIFE that has been revealed and experienced by John and the other disciples.

John 20: 25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

John signs off with a disclaimer that his record is only a partial report!

John 20: 23-24 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die; yet Jesus did not say to him, He shall not die; but “If I will that he tarry ‘til I come, what is that to thee.” This is the disciple who testifies of these things and wrote these things, and we know that his testimony is true.

John has recorded an eye-witness account of Jesus’ ministry! We are SOOO grateful!

John 20: 20-22 Then Peter, turning about, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following; who also laid on His chest at supper, and asked, “Lord, which is he that betrays you?” Peter, seeing him, asked Jesus, “Lord, what shall this man do?” Jesus said to him, “If I will that he tarry until I come, what is that to thee? Follow Me!”

We, as Peter, are to be following Jesus without concern for what others are assigned to do.

John 21: 18-19 “Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young you dressed yourself, and walked where you would. But when you are old, you will stretch forth your hands and another will dress you, take you where you do not want to go.” This He said, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when He had said this, He said to him, “Follow Me!”

Jesus continues to confirm Peter's leadership.

John 21: 13- 14 Jesus came and took bread and fish and gave it to them. This is now the third time that Jesus showed himself to His disciples, after He was risen for the dead.

There can now be no doubt of His victory over death and the grave!

John 21: 9-12 As soon as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it and bread. Jesus said, “Bring some of the fish you have caught.” Simon Peter went up and drew the net to land full of great fishes, a hundred and fifty-three; and for even with so many the net was unbroken. Jesus said to them, “Come and dine.” None of the disciples asked Him, “Who are you?”, knowing that it was the Lord.

A joyful reunion on the shore! Jesus continued to provide for them!

Sorry about the gap in posting, been recovering from dental surgery.

John 21: 7- 8 Therefore the disciple whom Jesus loved, said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” Now when Simon heard this, he wrapped his fisher’s coat about him (for he was naked,) and jumped into the sea. The other disciples came in a little ship (for they were not far from shore) dragging the net with fishes.

Jesus’ presence causes a joyful response!

John 21: 4-6 But when the morning came, Jesus stood on the shore; but the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Then Jesus said to them, “Children, have you any meat?” They answered Him, ”No.” He said to them “Cast your net on the right side of the ship, and you shall find.” They cast it there and now they were not able to draw it in for the multitude of fishes.

What we do at Jesus’ direction is always successful!

John 20: 29-31 Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” Many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written, that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have eternal life through His Name.

Let us CHOOSE to believe all that is written of our precious Lord, and enjoy life in Him forever!

John 20: 26-28 After eight days again His disciples were together and Thomas with them. Then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said “Peace be unto you.” Then said He to Thomas, “Reach here your finger, and behold My hands, and reach here you hand and thrust it into My side, and be not faithless, but believing.” Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and My God!”

Jesus give Thomas the opportunity to witness His wounds, and choose to believe.

John 20: 24-25 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called the twin, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Except I shall see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe”.

This is an example that believing is a choice! We decide what we will accept!
