Faith Lutheran Church

Faith Lutheran Church Faith Lutheran Church of East Wenatchee, WA On September 9, 1956, the congregation broke ground and began building. In the Word of Jesus. We live

In the world.

Our History

In June, 1956, 51 chartered members of Faith Lutheran Church, East Wenatchee decided to purchase the 4 ½ acre Leedy Apricot Orchard on E Street, a couple of blocks north of Grant Road. A building committee consisting of Robert Brunner, Harley Rolfs, Bill Marker, and George Battermann provided the leadership, equipment and ability to start construction of a new sanctuary in early fall

of 1956. Construction on the church building was completed in the spring of 1957 and the new sanctuary was dedicated April 28, 1957. The first called pastor was Pastor Brandmire. His family moved into a new parsonage built on the property in 1959. There have been seventeen pastors who have served this congregation in the past fifty years. The congregation continued to grow in numbers and continued to add on to the building. There have been four additions to the original building and now, we are building again. As the community of East Wenatchee has grown from a sleepy, little, orchard town to a city exploding with growing pains, Faith Lutheran Church has welcomed this challenge to bring Christ to this community. The Purpose of Faith Lutheran Church

In the power, guidance, and strength of the Holy Sprit, we seek God's presence in worship to open our hearts and minds that He may be glorified and we may be empowered to love and serve all people, that souls may be won for Jesus Christ. We Confess

One true God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who is revealed to us by Jesus and testified to by the Holy Scriptures. We Believe

In Jesus, God Himself, the Second Person of the Trinity, was with us on earth. By His death on the cross he paid the full debt of sin for all people. He rose from the grave and gives everlasting life to all who believe in Him. We believe that Jesus is with us and He rules His Church today through His Word, especially the free Gospel of forgiveness of sins. We are committed to preaching, reading, studying, and growing in His Word, the Holy Scriptures. In the Sacraments of Jesus. We treasure the special means by which Jesus Himself dwells among us with His forgiving grace. We believe that Jesus is present among us through the life-giving water of Holy Baptism. This washing by water and the Word brings infants and adults into the body of Christ. We rejoice in the gracious presence of Jesus in the Sacrament called the Lord’s Supper. As He says, it is His true body and blood under bread and wine that brings the joy of forgiveness, life, and salvation. We believe Christ has called each of us to be witnesses to the whole world, beginning in our own community and neighborhood and according to each of our unique vocations. We also support missionaries all over the world. As we worship. Our church’s spiritual and reverent liturgical worship (usually called the Divine Service) is filled with the Word of God through which Jesus blesses us with His presence and peace. Hoping in the Promise. We believe that death is not the end, but that our souls will be in heaven with our Lord and all the saints, waiting for the great day of resurrection. We believe Christ will return in glory, raise our bodies from the dead, and remake heaven and earth. For now we live and wait with joy and expectation, fed by His Word and Sacrament and serving our neighbors in love. Who are the Lutherans? Because Jesus is present among us with His Word purely preached and His Sacraments administered according to His institution, we believe that the one, holy, catholic (universal), and apostolic Church is present in our congregation (as we confess every Sunday in the Apostles' and Nicene Creeds). Our Scriptural faith is confessed in the Book of Concord (bookofconcord.org). We take Christ's Great Commission seriously to "make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19-20)

Our congregation is affiliated with The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. The LCMS is the second largest Lutheran church body in North America and the 11th largest denomination in the USA. We have two seminaries: Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, and Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and ten Concordia Universities around the country. These seminaries and universities give us our pastors and teachers who serve our congregations and Lutheran schools and preschools. As a member of the Synod, our congregation supports world mission work and the training of pastors and teachers.

FROM PRESIDENT HARRISON

“For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as the LORD our God is to us, whenever we call upon him?” Dt. 4:7

This text was spoken to encourage the ancient nation of Israel, from whom the Christ would come. The LORD was close and heard their prayers. From the earliest days of the church, she has prayed for the state and its rulers, for peace and tranquility, for mercy and the propagation of the gospel. Jesus clearly recognized the necessity of governing authorities when he said, “Render under Caesar what is Caesar’s and unto God what is God’s” (Lk 20:25). He never told a soldier or a government official to leave his post as though it were unchristian. He praised a military man for recognizing His divine authority and word when that man asked that his child be healed.

St. Paul forever set the Christian standard when he wrote, “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.” (1 Ti 2:1-6)

We Christians are to be good citizens, act in our communities for what is true, good, right and just. We should participate where we can in making our communities and governments reasonable according to natural law and the Ten Commandments. But a special and unique task of Christians is to pray for our leaders and our government. Ancient Israel had God’s direct prophetic word and promises about His presence with His people. We Christians have the direct and prophetic, divine and blood-bought assurance that God hears our prayers also for governing authorities and the state.

Today we pray for peace in light of an assassination attempt on former president Trump. We thank God for sparing his life and ask God’s mercy upon him, upon Robert Kennedy, upon President Biden, and upon all candidates for political office, that our Lord Jesus would preserve them and us from murder and mayhem, that what is right, just and true would prevail among us, in our state—even now—even today. It is with that sacred task given us as Jesus’ own people that we pray,

O Lord, You are a God of justice. Spare our nation from violence and bloodshed. Relieve those affected by violence. Grant us peaceful civil discourse and orderly conduct. Preserve all candidates, all who serve in elected office, and those who keep watch to protect those who govern. Grant us confidence amid all chaos in that peace which this world cannot give, the peace that comes through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
