Good Friday morning!

In our reading this morning of Hebrews 11, we get a little reminder of Abel, Enoch, Noah and Abraham, we are reminded although they “did” great things for God, it was their faith in Him that was worth remembering.

Spurgeon once wrote, “Faith is a principle which hath its root deeper than feelings. We believe, whether we see or not. We believe, whether we feel or not.”

The “greats” of the Bible, believed and acted whether they could see God’s plan or not and dispite their feelings. They had faith that God was who He said He was and was going to do what He said He would.

Will we choose that today?

Father, increase our faith! Amen!

Morning Fed family!

Today we read about God’s call to Abraham in Genesis 12, then the near sacrifice of His son Issac in Genesis 22. This passage is admittedly difficult to read. God tells Abraham to go and sacrifice his son as a burnt offering. Could you imagine hearing that as Abraham?

God…you want me to do what exactly? Sacrifice who?!

Here are a few interesting notes for context. In verse 5, Abraham tells the other young men traveling with them to stay with the donkey and that “they” (both Abraham AND Isaac) would come back. It sounds like Abraham was convinced that even with God’s command to sacrifice Isaac, Issac would somehow still be alive. At this point, Abraham would have been walking with God for over 40 years. Between Genesis 12 and Genesis 22, Abraham had seen the fruit of his obedience to God calling, and he’d also seen the consequences of his disobedience. He knew enough about God to know that trusting Him was the only way to proceed.

The other thing to note is that Abraham was well over 100 years old at the time of the sacrifice. If Isaac was a teenager, Abraham was at least 113 or older! This means that Isaac most likely would have had to be willingly placed on the altar.

If Isaac dies, the family line of Abraham and Sarah ends there. But God provides a ram in the bush to take Isaac’s place as the offering. In verse 12 God says, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.”

One day, Abraham and Isaac’s descendant, God’s own son, would willingly take our place. God would not withhold His son, His ONLY son, from US. That is how deep God’s love is for us. Live in that truth today!

Happy Wednesday Federated Family!!
Today our passage of reading is from the story of Noah and God's instruction for him to build the ark, collect the animals of every kind, and gather food of every kind. The amount of work that was needed to be done was quite extensive, and multifaceted. The massive ark being built was something that is hard to wrap your head around, not to mention the gathering of every animal and bird, as well as every food on the earth. All of this being done by Noah, his wife, his three sons, and their wives. The tasks were overwhelming, yet in Genesis 6:22 we read, "Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him." Noah was a man of obedience in a world so corrupt that God destroyed them. Sometimes I forget that, the world was so disobedient against God He decided to hit the reset button and destroy everyone in it except these 8 people. In the midst of that scripture tells us that Noah "did all that God commanded him." Noah wasn't perfect, yet he was obedient in this way. It is a great reminder to us that no matter how bad the world around us gets, we are able to obey God in what He instructs us to do in the midst of our imperfection. So the next time you are tempted to not follow God's instruction, remember the example of Noah and rely on God to carry you to be obedient!

Good morning Fed family! Today’s scripture reading is Genesis 4 and 5:21-24.
In Genesis 4 we read about Abel’s offering to the Lord. It’s important to notice how his offering is described. Verse 4 says that Abel brought “the firstborn of his flock and their fat portions,” and the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering.

What does that mean? Abel gave God the best he had from his flock. His offering showed his faith and trust in God. Why? Which animals would you want to keep to make your flock stronger and better? The best of the best, of course. Yet Abel trusted God enough to give those to the Lord. Abel’s offering expressed the faith he already had in his heart.

We are no longer called to offer animal sacrifices, but we are still called to trust God with what He has provided for us. The New Testament tells us to give with a cheerful heart and to offer our bodies as living sacrifices to the Lord.

Like Abel, we are called to give God our “first fruits” in faith, trusting the One who is truly in control of all things. This is the kind of faith that pleases the Lord.

The question we should all ask ourselves today is this. Are we offering God what costs us little, or are we truly surrendering the best of our time, gifts, worship, and lives to Him in faith?

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Happy Memorial Day Federated Family!
Let's remember our lesson from Peter's epic meltdown: let us NOT be afraid to be known as followers of Jesus and let us be prepared to give an answer for the hope that is within us!
Today, as we return to the book of Hebrews (11:1-10), let us also be reminded about the importance of FAITH:(v.6) "Without faith it is IMPOSSIBLE to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him."
We come into a relationship with God by FAITH (we are saved by grace through FAITH -Eph.2:8) and then we continue to pursue God by FAITH...by believing that He exists, that His Word and promises are good, and that He does REWARD (either now or in eternity...or both!) those who EARNESTLY seek Him! How will your life and the decisions you make or don't make today demonstrate that you have a firm and steady FAITH in God? Do you have an absolute assurance (FAITH )that God is trustworthy and is working ALL things for your good and His glory? We walk by FAITH not by sight!

Happy Friday!

Today we read about Peter’s incredible sermon on the day of Pentecost. What a full circle moment for Peter. He has gone from walking with Jesus, to denying Him, restoration and forgiveness, being filled with the Holy Spirit and now to boldly proclaiming the truth of the good news of Jesus!

Peter is easy to identify with- He is human and flawed, as we all are. And yet, Jesus calls him, is so patient with him, and brings him back into relationship when he falls short.

I am so thankful Jesus does this with each of us. He calls us today to turn from our sin, and come back into full relationship with Him! He longs for us to come close to Him! Don’t wait! Come to Him today!

Morning Fed family!

Today’s passage comes from Mark 16:1-8. The women receive word of Jesus’s resurrection, and their instruction from the angel at the tomb is to “go, tell his disciples and Peter” (v. 7).

Why did the angel specify Peter instead of lumping him in with the rest of the disciples? The answer is found is Peter’s previous denial of Jesus. In Mark 14:72, we see that Peter was distraught after denying Jesus. He swore he would never deny Jesus, yet he failed the test three times over.

Despite his failure, the angel wants Peter to know that Jesus is calling for him. Peter could easily assume that Jesus wouldn’t want to see him again after a failure like that, but his assumption couldn’t be further from the truth.

When we fail Jesus in our worst moments, we assume that He wants nothing to do with us. We are disqualified from following Him. But that would mean our trust is in OUR work, not HIS. Jesus knew Peter would deny Him before He called him. He called him anyway.

If your faith has been tested and you feel like you’ve failed, know that you haven’t taken Jesus by surprise. Like Peter, Jesus is STILL calling us to meet Him despite our failures.

Good morning Fed Family! Today our scripture reading is Matthew 16:13-23 and 26:30-35.

In the first passage, we see Peter answering Jesus’ question, “Who do you say I am?” Peter speaks what the Lord had obviously revealed to him and what he had come to believe: Jesus is the Messiah. Jesus affirms Peter and makes bold promises about the future.

Then in chapter 26:30-35, Jesus predicts that all of His disciples will fall away. Peter is so confident in himself that he vows he never will. Sadly, Jesus’ prediction was right. Peter would run.

Our lives are often similar. There are moments where we feel strong and faithful, and then moments where we fail.

Praise the Lord that we can trust His promises. Jesus’ predictions about Peter were both true. Peter would fail, but he would also be restored and boldly help lead the church after Christ’s death and resurrection.

We too can trust in God’s promises and character, especially when we fail. Our hope is not in our ability get it right, but in the faithfulness and grace of Christ.

Have a blessed day!

Happy Monday Federated Family!
Don't forget our lessons from yesterday and Elijah's meltdown: Isolation can be dangerous, Sabbath rest is good, and God is never done with using us...so get back to His work!
Today, as we begin looking at Peter (Luke 5:1-11), we see that from early on Peter was a disciple who would DO what Jesus told him to do....when Jesus tells Peter to let down the nets for a catch, Peter's reply (v.5)to Jesus is "....because you say so, I will!" What Jesus asked Peter to do did not make a lot of sense to his expert fishing mind but he obeyed because Jesus gave a COMMAND (and Jesus attached a promise to that command....there WOULD be a catch!).
Jesus said in John 14:21 "WHOEVER has my commands and OBEYS them, they are my disciples." In Luke 6:46 Jesus asks a very revealing question: "WHY do you call me Lord, Lord, and do NOT DO what I say?"
"Because you say so, I will!"...are YOU and I that kind of disciple??
