The grounds for Nehemiah’s confidence is first and foremost the greatness of God. That’s what led him to turn to God in prayer from the outset, and it’s the heart of his encouragement right here.

Ultimately, our ability to do what God has called us to do here will hinge on God’s power working in and through us.

When an obstacle comes along that threatens to derail you from what you’re pursuing, make sure that what you’re pursuing is aligned with God’s purposes. Spend time seeking God in prayer. Get some other people in your life involved in helping you assess the nature of your purpose, and the obstacle you’re facing. Be open to what God might be showing you through that obstacle.

Ultimately, our ability to do what God has called us to do will hinge on God’s power working in and through us.

Jesus’ death, resurrection, and sending of his Spirit set in motion a mission that is destined to succeed. He is building his church, and nothing can stop it. Look to Jesus, embrace the practical tools he’s given us, and keep building.

Getting to have direct, intimate access to God’s presence isn’t about being born to the right people or born in the right place. It’s about being reborn, simply through receiving Jesus. It’s not about your resume, your knowledge, your degree, your performance- just about receiving Jesus into the center of your life.

When the people of God who have received a share in the City of God respond to the call of God, then and only then does the work get done. It requires all of us to recognize the wonderful gift we have in being part of the City of God, specifically in this church body, and to take responsibility for the part God has given us to play.

Because Jesus Christ is risen from the dead and assembling an eternal City of God, everything you do in his name matters forever.
