So let’s go back to Creation.
As I said in my first post, we dispelled the Gap Theory, which holds that the universe and our world are millions of years old. So now, let’s look at what else God did on the first day of creation.
Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Gen 1:2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
Gen 1:3 Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light.
Gen 1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.
Gen 1:5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.
So we see that, in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, and the earth had no form and was empty. It was the same with the heavens—the heavens, which can be taken as our universe, were not filled either. If they were, the Lord would not have needed to create the sun, moon, and stars on the fourth day. This further proves that when the earth was without form and void, it simply meant the Lord had just started His creation process.
Now on Day 1, God also said, "Let there be light." He then divided the light from the darkness, calling the light Day and the darkness Night. Isn’t that interesting? Light was created before the sun, moon, and stars. It was with this light and darkness that He established the boundary of time we live in. When the first evening and morning were completed, it was counted as the first day—time was established.
According to Genesis, if the sun ceased to exist, would we still have light? The answer is yes! Why? Because Light was created before the sun, and the sun was created to rule or govern the day. It provides warmth and is a light bearer, but Light existed before the sun! Hard to fathom, isn't it? I know, but we serve an unfathomable God!
To conclude, on the first day, God created the heavens and the earth; He created light and divided the light from the darkness, which established the time frame we live in.
He created the universe, the earth, and time! Millions of years didn’t pass by, but one literal day. The first five verses of Genesis Chapter 1 make up one day, or 24 hours. Not millions of years! Now that’s quite amazing! But can you expect anything less from our amazing God?
