Cardinal Robert F. Prevost, the Chicago-born prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops under Pope Francis, was elected the 267th pope May 8 and took the name Pope Leo XIV.

He is the first North American to be elected pope.

The Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart will be open for prayer and reflection following the passing of our beloved Holy Father, Pope Francis. All are invited to join us in lifting our hearts in prayer for the repose of his soul and in thanksgiving for his faithful service to the Church.

You are all invited to celebrate his life with the Holy Eucharist presided by Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss. R. At 7:30 PM tomorrow, Tuesday, April 22nd at The Cathedral.

At 1:35 a.m. (EDT) on Easter Monday, our Holy Father returned to the house of the Father.
