St. Anthony's Family Liturgy

St. Anthony's Family Liturgy Each Sunday, the 9:30 am Mass is the Family Mass. All are welcome!

10/11/2025

I am sorry for the short notice, but the downstairs Children’s Liturgy at tomorrow’s Family Mass has been cancelled. (I had some travel plans that had to be adjusted due to the upcoming weather, so I won’t be in town tomorrow.) I am sorry, and we look forward to seeing the children downstairs on Sunday, October 26th! Be safe, and God bless you! πŸ™πŸ»

Today, we remember. We pray for those who lost their lives and for the families and friends who still feel their lose so acutely. We pray for the brave men and women who work tirelessly to protect our nation, both on that day and every day since. And we pray for peace - in our world, in our nation, in our homes and in our hearts. πŸ™

Do your children enjoy joining us downstairs at the 9:30 am Family Mass? Are you looking for a way to volunteer in our parish? Do you love working with children and want to find a way to bring them closer to God?

The Family Liturgy Committee is looking for volunteers to assist with our Sunday liturgies. We need committee members - people who will join us downstairs to help set up and clean up our liturgies and help to watch over the children while they are downstairs.

If you have any questions or would like more information about volunteering, please contact Kristen. (My information is included on the image.) Thank you, and God bless you! πŸ™‚πŸ™

Today, exactly nine months after the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, we celebrate the Nativity of Mary. As we celebrate the birth of Mary, let us each pray to our Blessed Mother, knowing that she loves us and will bring our prayers and intentions to her son, Jesus. πŸ™

Today in the United States, we celebrate the 5th World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. We say a special prayer for those grandparents, great-aunts and great-uncles, and all those who influence the lives of our children in positive, meaningful ways. May God grant them health and peace, and may each one of us - child and adult alike - show gratitude and respect to the grandparents and the elderly who bless our lives with their presence, their prayers and their wisdom. Amen! πŸ™

Today is the feast day of St. Teresa of Calcutta, more commonly known as Mother Teresa. She dedicated her life to caring for the poor and encouraging everyone to show love and kindness to others. St. Teresa of Calcutta, pray for us! πŸ™

For today's FORMED suggestion, I'd like to give a few options for younger kids.

Owlegories: short 15-minute videos centered around five young owls who learn and grow together with help from their wise teacher.

Ryan Defrates: Secret Agent: a secret agent who fights crime, and each episode ends with the creators tying the episode's lesson directly to Biblical truths.

Short Answers to Big Questions: what are the sacraments, what is the Immaculate Conception, and more. Answers to big questions, simplified and explained in a way that kids can understand.

The Jesus Stories: short, kid-friendly explanations of some of Jesus's parables, each compared to a situation that kids may enter today.

A full listing of content for kids is available here: https://app.formed.org/app/collections/115524

On Monday, we talked about choosing your shoebox. Now for the fun part: packing your shoebox!

People always have lots of questions about what to put in their shoebox gift, but OCC has made it so easy. Visit their website (https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/what-goes-in-my-shoebox-suggestions/) for guidance.

Step 1: include a "wow" item - a deflated soccer ball with a pump, a doll, a stuffed animal

Step 2: fill in the rest of the box with other fun and useful items - toothbrush, hair clips, socks, crayons, pencils (with sharpener), paper, tote bag or small backpack, jump rope, beach balls. The possibilities are endless!

Step 3: pray over your box!

OCC has also introduced a great tool: the "Can I Pack...?" search tool. Certain items that might be extremely useful and helpful (bars of soap, toothpaste) cannot be included in boxes because of the possibility of leakage or spoilage, or because they pose difficulties at customs in certain countries. This tool allows you to search up specific items to see if they are acceptable in a shoebox gift. Deodorant? That's a GO! Scissors? That's a GO! Candy? That's a NO! Nail polish? That's a NO!

My suggestion is "If in doubt, leave it out." There are so many wonderful items that can go into a shoebox gift - we are all asked to do our very best to fill our box with items that can easily travel and will bless the recipient.
