It looks like we'll be getting some snow on Sunday ~ we recommend attending our 4:30 vigil Mass before the snow arrives. Both Masses will be said on Sunday morning as scheduled, but please use prudence and caution before deciding to venture out!

Constant readiness is our theme this week. Though St. Ambrose 🐝 did plan to dedicate his life to public service, he did not plan to be thrust suddenly into the role of Bishop of Milan! Yet, in accepting this unexpected call from God, he was able to reform the church, support the poor, and even humble some emperors. This Sunday's Gospel reminded us to "stay awake" like St. Ambrose and be prepared at all times for "the coming of the Son of Man."

"In the lane, snow is glistening..." Memory lane, that is! ❄️🎄Check out these clippings from The Times Herald that we found in our parish archives. In January 1965, the newspaper highlighted the end of the first-ever semester at Saint Paul's school, which opened in 1964.

Our wonderful Pastoral Services Assistant, Sr. Rosellen Bracken, RSM, received a shout-out, as did Sr. Ellen Marie, RSM. Four students who were still committed to their studies even as Christmas vacation approached also got to see their names in print: then-second-graders Thomas McMann and Sean McMahon, and then-first-graders Thomas Kowalkowski and Cynthia Pierce.

St. Andrew the Apostle 🎣 and the Good Thief followed very different paths to find Jesus. St. Andrew was the first disciple to respond to His call, dedicating his life to spreading Christ’s message, while the Good Thief turned to Him in his final hours. Nonetheless, both men showed humility and faith in the shadows of their own crosses. Even in the face of suffering, they trusted in God’s love, mercy, and promise.

Prepare for Christmas by taking an ornament from our Advent Giving Tree 🎄🎁 We ask that you bring your gift to Church on the Second Sunday of Advent (12/6 or 12/7). Thank you for your outpouring of love, generosity, and Christmas cheer!

The color of each ornament indicates the intended recipient: red for Hospitality Center, yellow for Special Gifts, green for Catholic Social Services*, blue for Brother House, and orange for Baby's Breath.

*For Catholic Social Services, please personalize a card wishing the receiving family a "Very Merry Christmas," and include $25 Amazon, Target, or Walmart gift card(s). Please write the quantity of enclosed gift cards on the outside of each envelope so staff can ensure each family receives one gift card per child.

For all other recipients, please place gifts in gift bags with the appropriately colored tag or ornament securely attached.

St. Cecilia 🎶 had many reasons to falter in her faith—an unsupportive family, a forced marriage, her persecution and martyrdom—but she still found joy and comfort in singing to God in her heart through it all. Her example affirms the message of this Sunday's Gospel and reminds us that when you persevere in your faith, even in difficult times, "not a hair on your head will be destroyed."

This week, we reflect on Jesus's words as he cleansed the Temple of hypocrisy and greed. We also remember the selfless dedication of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini 🌎 By building brick-and-mortar schools, orphanages, and hospitals that served immigrants and people in need across the U.S. and around the world, she paved the way for more people to offer their hearts as living dwellings for the Spirit of God.

Today, we're remembering another key figure in St. Paul's history: Rev. Edmond Francis Murphy 🕊️ Fr. Murphy succeeded Fr. Gaughan in 1968. Under his leadership, our parish constructed the new church, grew the school and CYO programs, developed the special education PREP, built a buzzing social community, and thrived overall ⛪ Fr. Murphy retired in 1987, but our parish hall still bears his name today.

Check out these photos from our archives, as well as a beautiful letter (third slide) in which parishioners thanked Fr. Murphy for his spiritual guidance, inspirational words, and joyful spirit. What memories do you have of Fr. Murphy?
