Does anyone have any scary ghost stories? As we continue into our next section of Mark's gospel, we are surprised to find the disciples mistaking Jesus for a ghost. It comes as a part of another familiar story from the gospel accounts, namely, the story of Jesus walking across the water.

Skeptics and doubters push back, but it is in the testimony of Jesus walking on water that we see Him do what people, historically, only spoke about God doing. Indeed, our prayer is that many eyes will be opened in response to this event, that they might comprehend just who Jesus is, as well as how He comes to deliver all who cry out to Him.

There are some days when you are exhausted and simply want to relax. However, should sudden needs arise, you may not always get the opportunity. In the next section of Mark's gospel, we are presented with another familiar story - the feeding of the 5000.

As we read through this section, we discover Jesus as a faithful and compassionate shepherd who gives up his own rights in order to lead and feed lost and needy "sheep". Certainly, there is a call for us to mimic His sacrifice, but the more important response is that we would merely see and be satisfied with the man Himself, the man who we call Jesus Christ.

What's the most courageous thing you've ever done? In our next section of Mark, we encounter two men who respond very differently to the truth: Herod, driven by compromise and crowd-pleasing, and John the Baptist, driven by conviction and courage. As their paths collide, we see that following Christ faithfully comes with a cost, and that courage to stand for truth is worth the price.

Our prayer is that God would fill His church with bold witnesses of the faith who speak the truth and stand for what is right, even if it costs us our lives.

Home is a place where we delight to visit with family and old friends... at least, most of the time. When Jesus makes a brief visit to His hometown bringing the good news of the gospel, both He and His message end up being rejected. Through Jesus' example, as well as His instruction for those who further his ministry, we learn how to remain faithful messengers in the face of potential criticism and resistance.

Join us weekly at 9:00 a.m. for Sunday School, where the whole family is invited to be a part. Stay afterward for fellowship and coffee out in the tent. Then, join us back in the sanctuary at 10:30 a.m. for our main church gathering.
