JUNE 2: TUESDAY AFTER TRINITY SUNDAY

DAILY LECTIONARY READING: Ephesians 1:7–8
"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight." (ESV)

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: The debt of our sin is immeasurable, and the Law demands full payment. Knowing we could never pay it, Christ redeemed us—not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood. In Him, your trespasses are completely forgiven. This is not a stingy pardon; it is the infinite riches of His grace poured out over you abundantly.

BOOK OF CONCORD: "For neither you nor I could ever know anything of Christ, or believe on Him, and obtain Him for our Lord, unless it were offered to us and granted to our hearts by the Holy Spirit through the preaching of the Gospel." (Large Catechism II, 38)

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, we thank You for purchasing our freedom at the cost of Your own life. Let the riches of Your forgiveness grant us peace and joy today. Amen.

JUNE 1: MONDAY AFTER TRINITY SUNDAY

DAILY LECTIONARY READING: Ephesians 1:3–4
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him." (ESV)

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: Our salvation does not depend on our shifting feelings or weak choices. The Gospel anchors our security in eternity: God chose you in Christ before the world began. The Law convicts us of being unholy and full of blame, but the Gospel pronounces us holy and blameless because we are clothed in the perfect righteousness of Jesus.

BOOK OF CONCORD: "The eternal election of God, however, not only foresees and foreknows the salvation of the elect, but from God's gracious will and good pleasure in Christ Jesus, it is also a cause which procures, works, helps, and promotes our salvation." (FC SD XI, 8)

PRAYER: We praise You, Heavenly Father, for choosing us in Your Son out of pure grace. Keep our eyes fixed on Christ, our secure anchor, through all the trials of this life. Amen.

Whoever desires to be saved must, above all, hold the catholic faith. Whoever does not keep it whole and undefiled will without doubt perish eternally. And the catholic faith is this, that we worship one God in Trinity and Trinity in Unity, neither confusing the persons nor dividing the substance. For the Father is one person, the Son is another, and the Holy Spirit is another. But the Godhead of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit is one: the glory equal, the majesty coeternal. Such as the Father is, such is the Son, and such is the Holy Spirit: the Father uncreated, the Son uncreated, the Holy Spirit uncreated; the Father infinite, the Son infinite, the Holy Spirit infinite; the Father eternal, the Son eternal, the Holy Spirit eternal. And yet there are not three Eternals, but one Eternal, just as there are not three Uncreated or three Infinites, but one Uncreated and one Infinite. In the same way, the Father is almighty, the Son almighty, the Holy Spirit almighty; and yet there are not three Almighties, but one Almighty. So the Father is God, the Son is God, the Holy Spirit is God; and yet there are not three Gods, but one God. So the Father is Lord, the Son is Lord, the Holy Spirit is Lord; and yet there are not three Lords, but one Lord. Just as we are compelled by the Christian truth to acknowledge each distinct person as God
and Lord, so also are we prohibited by the catholic religion to say that there are three Gods or Lords. The Father is not made nor created nor begotten by anyone. The Son is neither made nor
created, but begotten of the Father alone. The Holy Spirit is of the Father and of the Son, neither made nor created nor begotten, but proceeding. Thus, there is one Father, not three
Fathers; one Son, not three Sons; one Holy Spirit, not three Holy Spirits. And in this Trinity none is before or after another; none is greater or less than another; but the whole three persons are coeternal with each other and coequal, so that in all things, as has been stated above, the Trinity in Unity and Unity in Trinity is to be worshiped. Therefore, whoever desires to be saved must think thus about the Trinity. But it is also necessary for everlasting salvation that one faithfully believe the incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, it is the right faith that we believe and confess that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is at the same time both God and man. He is God, begotten from the substance of the Father before all ages; and He is man, born from the substance of His mother in this age: perfect God and perfect man, composed of a rational soul and human flesh; equal to the Father with respect to His divinity, less than the Father
with respect to His humanity. Although He is God and man, He is not two, but one Christ: one, however, not by the conversion of the divinity into flesh, but by the assumption of the humanity into God; one altogether, not by confusion of substance, but by unity of person. For as the rational soul and flesh is one man, so God and man is one Christ, who suffered for our salvation, descended into hell, rose again the third day from the dead, ascended into
heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, God Almighty, from whence He will come to judge the living and the dead. At His coming all people will rise again with their bodies and give an account concerning their own deeds. And those who have done good will enter into eternal life, and those who have done evil into eternal fire. This is the catholic faith; whoever does not believe it faithfully and firmly cannot be saved.

MAY 31: THE FEAST OF THE HOLY TRINITY / THE VISITATION

DAILY LECTIONARY READING: John 3:15 / Luke 1:46–47
"...that whoever believes in him may have eternal life." / "And Mary said, 'My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.'" (ESV)

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: The Trinity is not a puzzle, but a God to be worshiped for our salvation. The Magnificat is the ultimate Gospel song: God has regarded the lowly and filled the hungry with good things in Christ.

BOOK OF CONCORD: "We worship one God in Trinity, and Trinity in Unity... this is the true Christian faith." (Athanasian Creed)

PRAYER: Almighty God, keep us steadfast in this faith and bring us to see Your face in glory. Amen.

“HOLY, HOLY, HOLY! LORD GOD ALMIGHTY!”
“WE PRAISE YOU AND ACKNOWLEDGE YOU, O GOD.”

Dear Saints at Zion,

Trinity Sunday is often approached as though it were a day for solving theological riddles. But the Holy Trinity is not a puzzle for us to solve. He is the living God who has made Himself known.

If God had not revealed Himself, we would not know Him at all. We might imagine Him. We might speculate about Him. We might create ideas that seem wise or spiritual. But we would never know the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as He truly is.

That’s why all true theology begins not with man ascending toward God, but with God coming down in mercy to us.

This Sunday at Zion, we will gather around the theme: THE GOD WHO COMES DOWN.

In our readings we will hear of the God who created light out of darkness, who entered our fallen world in the person of Jesus Christ, and who continues to place His saving Name upon sinners through His Word and Sacraments.

The Father creates…

The Son redeems…

The Holy Spirit sanctifies…

And all three Persons work together for one purpose: YOUR SALVATION.

The God who is eternal, infinite, and beyond all creation has not remained distant from His people. He has come near. He has spoken. He has acted. He has made Himself known. Most importantly, He has claimed you as His own.

Join us this Lord’s Day as we confess together the Athanasian Creed and rejoice in the Triune God who creates life where there is death, light where there is darkness, and hope where there is despair.

LIFE IN CHRIST: The Ten Commandments

Join us Tuesday at 4:00 PM for Session 3 of our LIFE IN CHRIST adult catechesis series. This week we will study the Ten Commandments and consider how God’s Law reveals His holy will, exposes our sin, and directs the Christian life. We will also discuss the three uses of the Law and the difference between outward obedience and true righteousness before God. All are welcome!

FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION:

THINK ABOUT IT:

“We could never have come to recognize the Father’s favor and grace were it not for the Lord Christ, who is a mirror of the Father’s heart; apart from Him we see nothing but an angry and terrible Judge. But of Christ we could know nothing either, if it had not been revealed by the Holy Spirit.” — Martin Luther

MEMORY VERSE CHALLENGE:

Join Lutherans throughout the Synod in committing God’s Word to memory. Galatians 3:26 — “In Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.”

OCCUPY YOUR OFFICE!

The world encourages us to define ourselves by our accomplishments, failures, opinions, possessions, and achievements.

But God has already given you a far greater identity.

In Holy Baptism, He placed His Name upon you.

You belong to the Father who created you.

You belong to the Son who redeemed you.

You belong to the Holy Spirit who sanctifies you.

This week, occupy your Office of Priesthood by praying for those who do not yet know Christ, speaking His promises to those who are discouraged, and remembering that your life is secure not because you hold tightly to God, but because He holds tightly to you.

TOMORROW AT ZION:

9:00 AM — Divine Service with Holy Communion

10:15 AM — Adult Bible Class
(Key Chapters of the Bible: Moses in Exodus 3–4)

THIS WEEK AT ZION:

Tuesday, 2:00 PM — Bible Study

NEXT SUNDAY:

The Second Sunday after Pentecost

Next Sunday we continue in the season after Pentecost with the theme: “The Physician of the Dead.” In our readings from Hosea, Romans, and Matthew, we will hear our Lord confront the deeper truth of our condition before God—not merely sickness, but death in sin. And yet into that death Christ speaks a life-giving Word. He calls Matthew the tax collector, not because Matthew has improved himself, but because Christ’s voice creates what it commands. The same Lord who calls light into darkness and life from the tomb still speaks today through His Gospel, raising sinners to sit with Him at His table in mercy.

Scripture Readings:

Hosea 5:15–6:6
Romans 4:13–25
Matthew 9:9–13

Under the mercy of the Father, the grace of the Son, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,

MAY 30: SATURDAY AFTER PENTECOST (EMBER SATURDAY)

DAILY LECTIONARY READING: John 14:27
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid." (ESV)

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: Christ gives peace based on His finished work. The "ruler of this world" has no claim on Christ, and therefore no claim on those who are in Christ.

BOOK OF CONCORD: "The Gospel brings certain and firm consolation to terrified consciences." (Apology of the Augsburg Confession IV, 62)

PRAYER: Lord, grant us Your peace. Let not our hearts be troubled or afraid, but trust in Your victory. Amen.

MAY 29: FRIDAY AFTER PENTECOST

DAILY LECTIONARY READING: Acts 8:20
"But Peter said to him, 'May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!'" (ESV)

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: The Spirit and His gifts are given freely for Christ's sake. We cannot bargain with God; we can only receive His grace by faith alone, clothed in Christ's righteousness.

BOOK OF CONCORD: "The gifts of the Holy Spirit are not bought with money... but are given freely by grace." (Apology of the Augsburg Confession II, 44)

PRAYER: Preserve us, O Lord, from the pride of thinking we can earn Your favor. Keep us humble recipients of grace. Amen.
