Fellow Parishioners,

This yearly appeal empowers the Diocese of Portland, Maine to practically live out the Gospel in divine love, compassion and healing to humanity within the Diocese, including our Parish community. This outreach is achieved through the church’s ministries such as Hospital Chaplaincy, Campus Ministry, Vocations, Catholic Charities and Ministry to Priests, just to name a few. Please pray and consider your donation to this year's Catholic Appeal.

Thank you for your generosity, for strengthening the ministries of our diocesan family, and for helping bring Christ’s love, hope, and presence to people throughout Maine.

Fellow Parishioners,

Did you know......

What is the Mystery of Faith/Memorial Acclamation?

At this point of the Mass after the elevation of the chalice, the priest genuflects in adoration. When he rises, he says, “The Mystery of faith.” These words invite one of three responses: “We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection until you come again”, or a similar response.

As the Second Vatican Council teaches, the Mass perpetuates the Sacrifice of the Cross throughout the ages until Jesus Christ comes again in glory. The Mystery of Faith announces three main points: past, present, future. It recalls the past, the event of the Cross, a present reality, and profess your Resurrection and a future anticipation, until you come again.

The redemptive sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross is of infinite and eternal value. Therefore, redemption isn’t an historical event---it is a present reality! At the
celebration of the Mass, then, the Cross is remembered in such a way that it is
rendered present.

The Mystery of Faith really invites us to meditate with joy on the realization that
God loves us and brings many truths and realities together at once to show the
abundant generosity of that “Love”

Fellow Parishioners,

Let love lead and unite us as in the Trinity

Today’s readings unveil the profound mystery of the Holy Trinity--God’s boundless love, mercy, and unity.

In the First Reading, God reveals Himself as merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, inviting us to place our trust in His compassion. The prayer in Daniel 3:52-56 extols God’s glory, calling upon all creationvto bless His holy name.

In the Second Reading, St. Paul invokes the Trinity, exhorting believers to live in peace and unity, enriched by the grace of Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.

The Gospel passage, John 3:16-18, encapsulates the heart of today’s message: God, in His infinite love, sent His Son not to condemn the world, but to bring salvation to all.

These readings invites us to marvel at the love of the Trinity, to live in gratitude for the gift of salvation, and to reflect on God’s unity and mercy in our relationships with others.

“In all our undertakings--when we enter a place or leave it, before we dress, before we bathe, when we take our meals, when we light the lamps in the evening, before we retire at night, when we sit down to read, before each new task--we trace the Sign of the Cross on our foreheads.” --Tertullian

Prolonged Eucharistic Adoration

Fellow Parishioners,

As taught by the Second Vatican Council, the Eucharist is the Source and Summit of the Christian Life. In the celebration of the Eucharist, we believe that when the priest says Words of the Consecration at Mass, the bread and wine are changed into the Body, and Blood, of Jesus Christ. A miraculous change that the Catholic Church calls Transubstantiation . As a result, the whole Christ, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity is really, truly and substantially present uunder either Eucharistic species, whether the consecrated bread or the consecrated wine. The Eucharistic presence of Christ begins at the moment of the consecration and endures as long at the Eucharistic species subsist. The Catechism tells us that the word of Jesus is what changes the bread and wine into His Body and Blood. It also teaches us that the reason we believe Jesus is present, is because Jesus said it. We believe his when He says: “This is my Body.” We believe Him when he says “This is my Blood.” We believe that the Eucharist really is Jesus. Therefore, through the power of the Holy Spirit and the words of Christ in the consecration, Christ is thus really and mysteriously made present among people so that they may be in communion with Him and with one another.
