According to Jim Gomez and Joeal Calupitan from the “Associated Press,” the southern Philippines experienced a 7.8 magnitude earthquake on Monday, June 7. Several buildings sustained heavy damage, a tsumani was reported, and a landslide was triggered (Online Article; Update from 7:54 a.m., June 8, 2026). We are asking our faith family to unite in prayer. Below is a prayer from FMC Asia:
"Dear Heavenly Father,
"We come to You with heavy hearts for the people of the southern Philippines after this morning's magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck off General Santos City and Sarangani. You saw every home that shook, every family that ran for safety, and every heart gripped by fear.
"We pray for those in the coastal communities under tsunami warning. Guide them safely to higher ground, and hold back the waters. Be near to the families searching for loved ones, bring comfort to the injured, and give strength to the rescue teams, local officials, and volunteers already at work even as the aftershocks continue.
"Father, today is also the first day of classes for so many children. Watch over the students, teachers, and parents, especially the little ones who woke up excited for school only to feel the ground move beneath them. Calm their fears and keep them safe.
"'God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.' (Psalm 46:1-2)
"In the middle of the shaking, remind our brothers and sisters in the Philippines that You do not move. Surround them with Your peace, draw communities together in compassion, and restore all that has been lost.
"We place the Philippines in Your hands, trusting in Your steadfast love and care.
"In Jesus' name we pray,
"Amen."
