Your Heart and God’s Word

Many of life’s greatest battles are won or lost in the heart. Before someone drifts from God, compromises their convictions, or makes a harmful choice, the struggle usually begins within. In the same way, a life marked by faithfulness, integrity, and obedience is often the result of God’s quiet work in the heart.
We work hard to protect what we value most. We lock our homes, safeguard our accounts, and watch over our possessions. Yet Scripture reminds us that our greatest treasure is not something outside of us, but within us .....our heart. Proverbs 4:23 (KJV)"Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life."

Here’s some more sugar for your Kool-Aid...

Psalm 119:9–16 (NKJV)
9 How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.
10 With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!
11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.
12 Blessed are You, O Lord! Teach me Your statutes.
13 With my lips I have declared All the judgments of Your mouth.
14 I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, As much as in all riches.
15 I will meditate on Your precepts, And contemplate Your ways.
16 I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.
In this, the longest Psalm in the Bible, the psalmist shows us how the heart is guarded, cleansed, and strengthened. The answer is not found in self-help, willpower, or human wisdom, but in the life-changing power of God’s Word.

A Couple of Points...

A Heart That Seeks God (vv. 9–10) - The psalmist asks, “How can a young man cleanse his way?” and immediately gives the answer: “By taking heed according to Your word.” He then declares, “With my whole heart I have sought You.” A guarded heart is a seeking heart. God does not desire occasional attention but wholehearted devotion. The closer we walk with God, the less likely we are to wander from Him.

A Heart That Stores God’s Word (v. 11) - "Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You." The psalmist did more than read God’s Word... he treasured it. He stored it deep within his heart. A Bible sitting on a shelf cannot protect us, but God’s Word hidden in the heart becomes a weapon against temptation, discouragement, and deception. Whatever fills the heart will eventually shape the life.

A Heart That Delights in God’s Truth (vv. 14–16) - The psalmist rejoiced in God’s testimonies as though they were great riches. He meditated on God’s precepts and delighted in His statutes. Many people obey God out of duty, but the psalmist obeyed out of delight. His heart found joy in God’s truth. When God’s Word becomes our delight, obedience becomes a privilege rather than a burden. A heart that delights in God will not easily forget Him.

The psalmist reminds us that a strong heart is not built by circumstances but by Scripture. A heart that seeks God, stores His Word, and delights in His truth will remain steady in temptation and faithful in every season. The question is not whether God’s Word is powerful enough to change a life. The question is whether we will allow that Word to take root in our hearts.

The encouragement is this: When God’s Word settles into your heart, it begins to shape your mind. When it shapes your mind, it influences your choices. When it influences your choices, it directs your life. And when God’s Word directs your life, God receives the glory.

Have a blessed week!

Security Blanket

I often looked at Linus from Charlie Brown and wondered why he always carried his blanket wherever he went. It was what brought him comfort and security. We all look for security. Some trust in money, relationships, possessions, or their own abilities to make them feel safe. Yet every earthly source of security can fail. Psalm

Look at what God's Word says:

Psalm 91:1 (NKJV) - "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty."

This verse reveals three powerful truths about the security found in God's presence.

Security Is Found in God's Presence - The psalmist says, "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High." To dwell means more than an occasional visit; it means to live, remain, and abide. God's protection is experienced most fully by those who cultivate a close and consistent relationship with Him.

Security Comes from God's Protection - The believer who dwells with God will rest "under the shadow of the Almighty." A shadow is cast by something larger than ourselves. The Almighty is all powerful, sovereign, and able to protect His children. We may not always understand His ways, but we can trust His care.

Security Produces God's Peace - The result of dwelling in God's presence is rest. This rest is not merely physical but spiritual. Even when storms rage around us, God's presence brings confidence, peace, and assurance. We can rest because our lives are in His hands.

The encouragement is this…. The safest place in the world is not a location but a relationship. When we make God our dwelling place, we discover a security that circumstances cannot shake. The closer we stay to Him, the greater our confidence and peace.

Have a great weekend!

Strength for Today

It's easy to become overwhelmed when we think about everything we have to face. Tomorrow's challenges, unanswered prayers, and unexpected burdens can make us feel weary. But God never asks us to carry tomorrow before it arrives. He gives us strength for today.

Look at what God's Word says:

Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV) - "Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."

This verse is filled with God's promises.

He promises His presence: "I am with you."
He promises His strength: "I will strengthen you."
He promises His help: "I will help you."
He promises His support: "I will uphold you."

Notice that God doesn't promise a life without difficulties. Instead, He promises that we will never face those difficulties alone. The same God who holds the universe together is holding His children in His righteous hand.

The Encouragement is this….Whatever you are carrying today, bring it to the Lord. His strength is greater than your weakness, and His grace is sufficient for every challenge you face.

Have a Blessed Day!!

Glory That Outweighs the Struggle

Life often brings seasons of suffering that test our faith. Trials, disappointments, hardships, and heartaches can feel overwhelming in the moment. Yet Paul directs our attention away from our present circumstances and toward our future hope in Christ.

Look at what God's Word says:

Romans 8:18 (NKJV)"For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."

In this verse, Paul does not deny the reality of suffering. Instead, he teaches believers how to view suffering through the lens of eternity.

Couple of Points from this verse..

Suffering Is a Present Reality - Paul speaks of "the sufferings of this present time." Following Christ does not exempt us from trials. In fact, believers often face difficulties, persecution, and spiritual battles just because we follow Christ. Pain is real, but Paul reminds us that suffering belongs to this present age. It is temporary, not permanent.

Suffering Cannot Compare to Future Glory - Paul says our present sufferings are "not worthy to be compared" with what God has prepared. No matter how heavy today's burden may seem, the glory awaiting believers is infinitely greater. The joys of eternity will far outweigh the sorrows of earth. What God has promised is far greater than what we presently endure.

Glory Is Certain for the Believer - Notice Paul does not say glory might be revealed; he says it "shall be revealed in us." This is a promise, not a possibility. Because of Christ, believers have a secure future. The same God who saves us will also glorify us. Our hope rests not in our circumstances but in God's unchanging promise.

Here the encouragement…… When life becomes difficult, remember that suffering is temporary, glory is incomparable, and God's promise is certain. Keep your eyes on Christ and the eternal future He has prepared. The road may be hard now, but the glory ahead will make every trial worthwhile.

Have a blessed Day!!!

No Condemnation
One of the enemy's favorite tactics is to keep some believers trapped in guilt over sins that Christ has already forgiven. He reminds us of our failures, our weaknesses, and our past, hoping we'll forget what Jesus accomplished on the cross.

Look at what God's Word says:

Romans 8:1 (NKJV) "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit."

Notice the powerful word "now." Because of Christ's finished work, the believer's standing before God has changed. Those who are in Christ are no longer under the sentence of condemnation. Think about a court room and your lawyer is Jesus. The consequences are still the same, but The penalty for sin has been paid, and God's wrath has been satisfied through Jesus.

This verse does not mean believers never sin or struggle. It means that our acceptance before God is not based on our performance but on Christ's righteousness. When we fail, we confess and repent, but we do not return to a position of condemnation. We are children of God, redeemed by grace.

Paul also reminds us that those who belong to Christ are called to walk according to the Spirit. The Spirit's presence produces a new direction in our lives. We don't pursue holiness to earn God's favor….. we pursue holiness because we already have it through Christ.

The Encouragement is this…..Today, if guilt from your past , and we ALL have one, is weighing you down, remember this truth: if you are in Christ, God does not see you as condemned…. He sees you as forgiven, justified, and accepted through His Son.

Take comfort in this reality: the cross was enough, Christ's sacrifice was sufficient, and there is now no condemnation for those who are in Him.

Have a blessed Day!!

When God Interjects

Have you ever looked back over your life and realized that what seemed like a coincidence was actually God at work? May be a chance meeting, an unexpected opportunity, a closed door that led to a better one, or a difficult season that positioned you for a greater blessing. In the moment, it may have appeared random, but later you could clearly see the fingerprints of God.

Seeded from a message preached at Crump Chapel for Friends and Family Day by Pastor Brandon Catchings (Thanks Again) .... Look at God’s Word….

Ruth 2:2–4 (NKJV)2So Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Please let me go to the field, and glean heads of grain after him in whose sight I may find favor.” And she said to her, “Go, my daughter.” 3Then she left, and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers. And she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech. 4Now behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said to the reapers, “The Lord be with you!” And they answered him, “The Lord bless you!”

Life does not always go according to plan. Naomi and Ruth found themselves in a season of loss, grief, and uncertainty. Ruth was simply looking for a field where she could gather enough grain to survive. She was not searching for Boaz, a husband, or a future blessing. She was just taking the next faithful step.

Verse 3 says, "and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz." To human eyes, it looked like chance… But in God's providence, there are no accidents. What seemed like a random field was actually a divine appointment.

Then verse 4 says, "And, behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem." At just the right moment, God interjected into Ruth's ordinary day. Boaz's arrival would become the turning point that changed Ruth's future forever.

Couple of Points gleaned from this powerful story…

God often works through ordinary moments. - Ruth was not in a worship service or on a mountaintop experience. She was working in a field. God frequently steps into our lives while we are faithfully handling everyday responsibilities.

God’s timing is always perfect. - Boaz arrived exactly when Ruth needed favor. God is never early and never late. He knows when to open doors, send help, and provide direction.

God’s intervention is bigger than our immediate need. - Ruth was looking for grain, but God was preparing a future. Sometimes we pray for provision, and God is working on purpose. We ask for help today, while He is arranging blessings that will impact generations.

The Encouragement is this …There may be areas of your life that seem ordinary, uncertain, or even accidental…. But God is still directing steps and arranging encounters. The same God who interjected in Ruth's story is able to step into yours. Keep walking faithfully. What looks like coincidence may actually be God's providence, and the field you're standing in today may be the very place where God reveals His next blessing.

Have a blessed Week!!

According to His Mercy

It’s easy to look at the brokenness, uncertainty and challenge and point fingers at everyone else. We see pride, division, anger, and rebellion all around us. But Paul reminds Titus of something important: before Christ changed us, we were no different. Titus 3 does not begin with condemnation toward others…it begins with humility and remembrance.

Look at what God’s Word says:

Titus 3:1–7 (NASB95)1Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed,
2to malign no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing every consideration for all men.
3For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another.
4But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared,
5He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,
6whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
7so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

In these verses, Paul paints an honest picture of humanity apart from God. Foolish minds. Disobedient hearts. Enslaved desires. Lives filled with envy, hatred, and selfishness. Sin doesn’t just affect what we do.. it shapes who we are apart from Christ, and no amount of good works or self-improvement could rescue us from that condition.

Then comes the shout if you’re looking for one:

“But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared…” (v. 4)

Everything changed because God stepped in.

Paul says next: “He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy…” (v. 5)
Salvation is not earned. We could never work our way into grace. God saved us because of His mercy, through the cleansing and renewing power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus did what we could never do for ourselves. Through Him, we are forgiven, renewed, justified, and made heirs of eternal life. Because we have received such mercy, our lives should reflect it.

Paul tells believers to be obedient, peaceable, gentle, and considerate toward others. Why? Glad you asked……Because grace changes how we treat people. When we remember who we once were, it becomes harder to look down on others who still need Jesus.

The Encouragement is this…. Never forget where God brought you from. His mercy did not just improve your life ….it completely transformed your eternity. And the same grace that saved you is still able to change others today. As the old folks use to say…. Have Mercy!!

Have a blessed weekend!!

Keep Growing

Spiritual growth does not happen by accident. In a world full of distractions, deception, and compromise, believers must be intentional about staying close to God. Peter writes these final words as a warning and an encouragement to the church: don’t drift away …. keep growing.

Look at what God’s Word says:

2 Peter 3:17–18 (NKJV)17You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; 18but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

In these verses, Peter also warns that unstable people twist Scripture to fit their own desires. That warning still matters today. Not every voice speaking about God is speaking truth. This is why believers must know God’s Word for themselves. A growing Christian is not easily pulled away by culture, false teaching, or emotional opinions because they are grounded in truth.

Verse 17 says, “beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness.” Even strong believers must stay watchful. Spiritual complacency can slowly weaken prayer, worship, and obedience. Drift rarely happens suddenly....it happens little by little.

But Peter closes with hope: “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Growth means learning Him more deeply, trusting Him more fully, and reflecting Him more clearly every day. Grace is not just how we are saved … it is also how we are sustained while we grow.

The Encouragement is this…. keep seeking God. Keep studying His Word. Keep praying even when you feel weak. God is still shaping you, strengthening you, and preparing you for His purpose. Spiritual growth is a lifelong journey, and every step closer to Christ is worth it. I pray the daily devotionals help you continue to grow in Grace on your walk.

Have a blessed Day!!

Open Doors

Some doors in life close without warning. Opportunities fade, relationships change, and plans fall apart. Many times, we spend so much time trying to reopen doors God closed that we miss the new door He has already opened.

Look at what Jesus said:

Revelation 3:8 (NKJV) 8“I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.

The church in Philadelphia was not described as strong or powerful. God said they had “a little strength.” Yet He still opened a door for them that no one could shut. That reminds us that God’s blessings are not based on our power, but on His authority.

Jesus alone holds the “key of David” (Isaiah 22:22), meaning He alone has the authority to open and close doors in our lives and ultimately the door to eternal life.

Truths to Remember

God sees your faithfulness.
God opens what man cannot shut.
Your weakness does not limit God’s power.

The encouragement is this....Stop grieving every closed door. If God shut it, trust His wisdom. If He opened it, walk through it with confidence. Your future is not controlled by people—it is directed by God.

Have a blessed day!
