On Saturday, February 28th, the MLC servant event trip participants departed for Newland, North Carolina, to serve with the Avery County Habitat for Humanity.
The team, Alexis, Rose, and Liz, started the 12-hour drive at 7 AM that Saturday. Rose and Liz were the designated drivers, switching off every two hours, while Alexis was the route coordinator and aux-controller. Rose drove the first two hours before a quick stop at a Target to order Starbucks. Liz drove the next two hours, switching drivers again at Goodrich Giles in Ohio, where there was a bridge and a beautiful view. The next stop was Buc-ees in Richmond, Kentucky, where the group got lunch and a picture with the Bucky statue before heading off again. The next stop was at Cove Lake State Park, where the group hiked, took some pictures, and relaxed before continuing the drive. The final stop before arriving at their cabin, the group stopped in at Walmart to pick up dinner for the night and some other necessities for the upcoming week.
Finally, the group headed towards their final location, Doe River Landing campgrounds. After getting lost and turned around, the group arrived at 8:30, settled in, and had frozen pizza for dinner.
