If you visit Longyear Museum in Chestnut Hill, Mass., you may notice a recurring cross and crown motif. What is it? The cross and crown seal—emblematic of Christian Science—is featured on the cover of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.

The cross and crown window you see here is from the Original Edifice of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston. In 1908, Mrs. Eddy requested that the emblem be redesigned. As a result, the window was replaced and is now on view at Longyear Museum. We also sell several cross and crown items in our shop!

In June of 1882, Mary Baker Eddy moved to Pleasant View, a farm on the outskirts of Concord, N.H., and a home she occupied longer than any other throughout her life. Of her retreat from the city to the countryside, Mrs. Eddy said, “I left Boston in the height of prosperity to retreat from the world, and to seek the one divine Person, whereby and wherein to show others the footsteps from sense to Soul.”

We are grateful to the sunshine ☀️ for giving The Mother Church’s 2026 summer interns a glorious day for a recent walking tour 🥾 organized by the Library.

Our staff shared the story of Mary Baker Eddy’s years in Bow and Concord, New Hampshire, while Longyear Museum treated us to tours of Eddy’s homes in Lynn and Swampscott, Massachusetts. 🏡

Thanks, everyone, for a great day!
