Hi, Church Family,

There is an often-quoted phrase from President John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address that begins with “Ask not…” Many of you can finish the statement. His speech was one of encouragement, calling on Americans not to wait for things to happen but to get involved in making things better for America by using whatever talents they had to improve the world around them. Simply put, do not wait for America to do it for you, but rather get involved, using what talents you have to bring about the change you want to see in America. To accomplish this, it required a change in the way people thought about themselves and their country. It required a change in the way they thought.

In Luke, Jesus tells a parable about wineskins to some of John the Baptist’s disciples and some Pharisees who questioned why His disciples did not fast. Their understanding or lack thereof, stemmed from the way they viewed Jesus. This Sunday, in my sermon, “Perspective,” we will discuss this parable from Luke 5:33-39 and why they failed to understand it.

See you Sunday!

Bible Study Tonight – Book of Acts
Fellowship Hall – 6:30 pm

Dinner: Hot dogs, baked beans, and huge
chocolate-covered strawberries.

Good Morning, Church Family,

I want to encourage you to come to the Bible Study tonight. The Apostle Paul encouraged Timothy to “Do his best to present himself to God as one approved, a Christian who had no need to be ashamed, because through studying Scripture he would confidently be able to accurately tell others about Jesus.” This verse is from the 2nd letter Paul wrote to Timothy, as an encouragement to him and the reason why it is important to study.

We begin the study at 6:30 pm with a light meal and good conversation. Tonight’s fare is hot dogs and baked beans with a dessert. Afterward, we read God’s word and discuss it before closing in prayer at the end of the study. You will come away with your soul refreshed and your mind renewed for the remainder of the week. Please reply if you plan to attend, so I have a headcount for the food. I hope and pray to see you all soon!

In Christ,
Pastor Antonio and Pastor Bob

We welcomed Pastor Pasqual Abasta and his family to UBC on Sunday, May 24th. Pastor Pasqual is Youth Pastor and Discipleship Pastor at MetroWest Baptist Church in Wellesley, Massachusetts. The title of his sermon was "Walking the Walk," based on Ephesians 4:17-24.

Pastor Pasqual is a graduate of Boston Baptist College in Hyde Park, MA and joined us Sunday as part of UBC’s mentoring program which provides an opportunity for pastoral candidates or recent graduates of BBC to preach to our congregation on a quarterly basis. We always learn from Pastor Pasqual whenever he visits us!

Hi, Church Family,

Some of you may remember a game show called “To Tell the Truth.” For those of you who do not, the show featured three contestants who all claimed to be the same person, each with an unusual story or occupation. A panel of celebrities would question each contestant to identify the lone truth-teller, while the two impostors would lie to mislead them. Sometimes celebrities got it right, but often they were duped by their assessments. Among the disciples, one such unlikely candidate would have been Matthew, given his profession. And yet the Lord saw something in him where others did not. This Sunday, in my sermon, “To Tell the Truth,” we’ll discuss Matthew in Luke 5:27-32 and why he was the real deal.

See you Sunday!

Hi, Church Family,

Many Americans will celebrate Mother’s Day this Sunday with gifts like flowers, candy, or a restaurant dinner. Mother’s Day sees the highest annual phone call volume, and over 113 million cards are exchanged to celebrate the occasion. Many people have stories about how their mothers impacted their lives. The Bible emphasizes respect, love, and the importance of a mother’s influence in shaping her children’s lives. One such woman was Salome, the mother of James and John, and the wife of Zebedee. This Sunday, my sermon, “A Mother’s Love,” will explore the bold request a mother makes for her two sons in Matthew 20:20-23.

See you Sunday!

Pastor Antonio

Friends of Assisi Food Pantry
Cereal Challenge

Hi Everyone,

As we move toward the 250th anniversary of the founding of our church, I am trying to collect 100 boxes of cereal for Friends of Assisi Food Pantry. Presently we have 17 boxes. We still need 83 more. Any donation is greatly appreciated.

They also need tuna fish, peanut butter, Chef Boyardee items, ketchup, mustard, and laundry detergent. Anything you can give is helpful to the food challenged people of our community.
