Beacon Kids Lesson:
“Obeying God Matters”
Saul was chosen by God to be the very first king of Israel. At first, he was humble and didn’t even think he was good bough to be king.
God gave Saul instructions through the prophet Samuel. But later, Saul started making his own choices instead of obeying God.
One time God told Saul to do something very specific—but Saul only obeyed part of it. He thought his way was better. Because of that, God was not pleased with Saul’s disobedience.
*The big lesson: Partial obedience is still disobedience. God wants us to fully obey him.
Craft: Paper crown’s as a reminder to always obey God!

Beacon Kids Lesson:
“David & Goliath”
Part 1: David's Anointing (1 Samuel 16)
• The Setup:
God told the prophet Samuel to go to Bethlehem to anoint Israel's next king.
• The Lesson:
Samuel looked at Jesse's oldest, tallest, and strongest sons, assuming they were the chosen ones. But God told Samuel, "The Lord does not look at the things people look at.
People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."
• The Choice:
Samuel checked all seven of the older brothers, but God said no to all of them.
Jesse finally sent for his youngest son, David, who was out taking care of the sheep. God chose David, and Samuel anointed him with oil to be the future king.
• Key Takeaway:
God cares more about what is inside your heart:—your love, courage, and faith and not how you look or how popular you are.
Part 2: David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17)
• The Giant:
The Israelite army was terrified of Goliath, a massive Philistine giant who was over 9 feet tall and wore heavy armor. For 40 days, Goliath taunted the army of God.
• The Young Hero:
David, still just a young shepherd boy, visited the battle camp to bring his brothers food. Hearing Goliath's insults, David bravely stepped forward to fight.
• The Battle:
King Saul tried to give David his royal armor, but it was too big and heavy. David took it off, grabbed his shepherd's staff, his slingshot, and five smooth stones from a stream. Goliath laughed at the boy, but David shouted, "The battle is the Lord's!" David threw a single stone from his sling, hitting Goliath right in the forehead.
• Key Takeaway:
No problem or "giant" in our lives-like fear, bullies, or anxiety-is too big for God to help us overcome.
Craft:
*make your own sword and sling shot.
