This Sunday, Pastor Marben Bland of Greater Bethel AME Church in Athens, Georgia, will deliver a powerful message titled “So That God’s Works May Be Revealed.” Based on John 9:1–41, this sermon reminds us that our struggles are not always punishment—they can become the very place where God’s glory is revealed. Through the story of the man born blind and the inspiring testimonies of courageous Black women who overcame adversity, Pastor Bland will show how God transforms pain into purpose and trials into testimony. If you’ve ever wondered how God can work through your hardest moments, this message is for you. Join us and be encouraged to see how God can reveal His works through your life.

The Complaints Of The Israelites
The Glorious Compassion Of God
Exodus 15, 16, 17

Ask anyone in customer service and they will tell you we are a people of complaints. We have grievances about almost everything satisfaction is never achieved. And on the rare occasions it is saying thanks is never part of the equation.

Being freed from Egyptian bo***ge is not enough for the Israelites. In the verses that we will study tonight from Exodus 15, 16, and 17, we will see the compassionate glory of God as Moses deals with the complaints of the Israelites.

The Passover
A Deep Dive
Exodus 12:1-50

Four hundred years before the Passover, God saved the Jewish people from a deadly famine by bringing them to Egypt, the only nation prepared with storehouses of food.

By God’s sovereignty, Joseph, one of Jacob’s 12 sons who was sold as a slave by his brothers, had risen to second in command over Egypt. When the Israelites faced starvation, Pharaoh welcomed them into the land because of Joseph. But after Pharaoh died, his successor put the Jewish people to work as slaves. They lived in bo***ge until God called Moses as His instrument to deliver them 400 years later.

The 50 verses of Exodus Chapter 12 demonstrates God’s endless love not only to the Israelites in Egypt but to all of us in the world today. This week we will focus on the Passover with a deep dive into Exodus Chapter 12 as God delivers the Israelites from bo***ge.

God Is Counting On Us – Numbers 3:1-3
Sermon #15, 2024 -2025 Conference Year – Delivered On Sunday, October 13, 2024

After more than 400 years in bo***ge God delivered the Israelites to freedom. In Number 1:1-3 God spoke to Moses telling him to take a census of the people enrolling the one who are willing and able to join God’s army.

Christians should be counted in, so that we can be counted on. That’s what the local church is all about, God’s people spreading the gospel, God’s people helping the community, and God’s people making disciples for Christ.

So, the question is can you be counted on? Can you be counted on to study and read his word? Can you be counted on love your neighbor? Can you be counted on to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

God is counting you can you be counted on?

3 key points form Pastor Bland

1. Lord will speak to you with a specific task.
The specific task was to count, inspect and enroll the people.
2. God Wants To Know You
As we discover in Psalm 139:1-3 God is the ultimate census taker. God has searched us, knowing when we sit down, when we rise up and is acquainted with our ways.
3. God Has A Battle Plan For Us.
God is enrolling men and women in his army with marching orders to spread the gospel and making disciples.

Micah 6:8 God’s Requirements For Leadership
Sermon #14, 2024 -2025 Conference Year – Delivered On Sunday, October 6, 2024

On October 1st, 2024, James Earl Cater, Jr. the 39th President of the United States celebrated his 100th birthday.

No greater evidence of Jimmy Carter’s faith can be found in his 1977 Presidential inaugural address.

In the third sentence of the address the new President said:

Here before me is the Bible used in the inauguration of our first President, in 1789, and I have just taken the oath of office on the Bible my mother gave me a few years ago, opened to a timeless admonition from the ancient prophet Micah

8 He has told you, O mortal, what is good, and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?

In a teaching from Micah 6:8, Pastor Marben Bland discusses the leadership test not only for political candidates but for all of us.

Pete Rose
Confession, Repentance, and Forgiveness

The death of baseball’s Pete Rose the holder of the game’s all-time hits record provokes thoughts of confession, repentance, and forgiveness.

New York Times writer Daniel J. Wakin said Rose’s fame rested equally in being one of baseball’s greatest players and one of its most disgraced.

Barred for life from the game in 1989 for regularly betting on baseball, including on his own team the Cincinnati Reds which he managed. Forever shutout from the Baseball Hall of Fame where his play warranted induction.

David, who God so favored that him made a king disgraced himself. Taking for his own the wife of a loyal soldier under his command then having him killed to cover up his misdoings.

Like Pete and David, we are capable of good and evil. In this world one good event can mark us forever as a saint, and one bad thing as corrupt.

Happily, God does not see us as corrupt as 1st Samuel 16:7 reveals the Lord looks at the heart and sees a sinner who can confess, a sinner who will repent, a sinner who will be forgiven.

God forgave David, God forgave Pete, and God will forgive you.
