What does it mean when scripture says, “you are not your own?”

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies” 1 corinthians 6:19, 20

“You are not your own”means God purchased you (with the precious blood of his Son) and now possesses ownership of your body. [He made you righteous, meaning you gave Him the right to your life.]

We were once slaves to sin and death, but Jesus “gave His life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us His very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds” Titus 2:14

“You are not your own”means you no longer serve the selfish desires of your flesh but are now a servant of God’s kingdom. Paul instructs, “Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life.” Romans 6:13

“You are not your own” means you are called to devote your body to God, putting to death the deeds of your sinful nature and living through the power of the Holy Spirit.

We have not been left alone, the Holy Spirit has been given to us as our Helper. As we continue to renew our minds in the word of God, and choose to walk His way, (walk by the Spirit, Gal. 5:16) we will not fulfill the desires of our old nature.

“For His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.” 2 Peter 1:3

This verse emphasizes that through Jesus, we have everything necessary for a godly life. ❤️

Everything you need to be victorious, God has already placed within you. He is the author and perfecter of your faith.

Whatever God is calling you to do, He will faithfully give you all you need to accomplish that work. No striving, no worry or fear is part of His plan. 

Sit with Jesus [The Word], be still [ get out of your head] and receive His leading with joy.

It may look different than what we thought it would be. The total opposite of what we had seen with our own mind. But when we press into Him, yearning for His way, His plan… the peace comes with a quiet joy surrounding our day.

And we won’t miss His glorious plan! ❤️

When we know who our God is, it builds a huge trust foundation in us. It builds a strong relationship between us, one of reliance on Him to always carry us through and to get us over all circumstances.

As we study about His attributes
it strengthens our foundation as well as lifts our hearts.  It brings comfort to us and steadies our walk.  We live a more calm life because we have learned through Him we need not worry, fret about anything or become discouraged all because of who He is for us.

Get to know Him as the Holy, sovereign, comforter, merciful, faithful, omniscient and compassionate God. 

His most powerful attribute is that He is immutable! God is unchanging! He is the same yesterday, today and forever! We can stand on what we read in His word of what He says He is! It remains the same from the first written letter to now.

Don’t just read the Word , meditate on the Word, giving it time and the eyes of your heart will be enlightened. Truth will be revealed. Revelation will speak to you. 

Then give Him praise.

This is where the real battle happens. Between what God declares, and what the natural mind insist on believing.

This is why we must let go of things that we have heard that are contrary to God’s word  and let the Holy Spirit reveal to us the truth of God‘s word as we read, and our mind will be transformed.

Romans 12:2 “… be transformed [metamorphosis; changed into another form] by the renewing [to renovate; literally tear down, not just covering over] of your mind…”

As we continually meditate upon God‘s word, the Holy Spirit will begin to replace old thoughts/patterns with Divine realities.  The voice of the senses will grow quieter and the voice of the Spirit within grows clearer.

In this new month of Elul, ask the Lord to awaken your spiritual eyes (the eyes of your heart ) to recognize what He is doing in this season.

Elul is a time to become more attentive to His voice and sensitive to His leading.
The month of Elul teaches us the necessity of being willing to turn around!

Elul is a month of repentance and preparation, preparing your heart for Rosh Hashanah, the 10 Days of Awe and Yom Kippur. Don’t miss the divine appointments He places before you.

Stay alert, stay expectant, and be ready to follow wherever He leads.

From the day that you accepted Jesus into your life, you began in the Spirit’s power! Don’t retreat to less. 
We easily began walking with the Spirit— that is, in full dependence upon God‘s power, but then we digress into leaning on human wisdom and ability of others or even our own. 
Maybe we have come to depend upon our educational achievement, or economic advances, or material security rather than God‘s power.
As we continue to walk in the flesh, we lose our dependency upon the Holy Spirit! We need to maintain intimacy with the Father.  To continue to abide in the Spirit requires continual vigilance over our walk. 
When we feel like we’re slipping, with 1 foot following fleshly, desires, or attitudes, and the other foot, trying to grip the word of God, we need to get back into the book of Galatians, which shows us how to discern between a life of kingdom service or a life advancing through human effort.

Our words are powerful!
God tells us that our tongue brings life or death when we speak words.
We want to be careful how we speak over our situations. We don’t want to speak the problem.— we want to speak the promise! Be sure to speak God’s word over your life and those around you.

Since God didn’t spare His best. Why would He spare the rest?

You’ve been living under a lie — thinking it’s too much to ask God for what you need. Too much to ask for breakthrough. Too much to ask for provision, healing, direction, protection.

But look at what He already gave you. He gave you Jesus. The Best. The crème de la crème. Himself.

None of us deserved that. Not you, not me. And if He didn’t hold back His own Son, He’s not about to hold out on you about anything else.

Stop asking small. The God who gave you everything isn’t stingy with what’s left.

Go ahead, ask. And watch your world turnaround.

Take in the Word of God. Breathe it in. Speak it out. Believe as you speak.
And healing comes.
We receive healing through the salvation of Jesus Christ! He will restore our body, renew our minds and bring rest to our soul.

If you need healing today, speak out declarations that surround His Word and receive.

Jesus bore my sickness and carried my pain. Therefore, I give no place to sickness or pain. For God sent His Word and healed me. Psalm 107:20.

You have given me abundant life. I receive that life through Your Word and it flows to every organ of my body bringing healing and health.
John 10:10; John 6:63

No evil will befall me, neither shall any plague come near my dwelling. For You have given your angels charge over me. They keep me in all my ways. In my pathway is life, healing and health.
