Connecting people to Jesus Christ

God commands us to honor our fathers and mothers. Yet because mom and dad are sinners, they donโ€™t exhibit the perfect love of God toward us even in the best of circumstances. The Ascension Family is deeply grieved to announce the passing of our President, life-long member of the church, Mr. Stephen Kalman. We put our hope in God, and know that Steve is in God's good hands. Steve passed away suddenly on Monday, December 2. He had just been with us in church on Sunday morning in good health and excellent spirits. He was so strong, and still setting the example for others. Steve's parents and grandparents were all active members of our church, going back over 100 years, to the original Hungarian immigrants who founded and built Ascension. Steve was a religion major at Muhlenberg, and frequently preached during the Service of the Word from Ascension's pulpit. He did just about everything else at Ascension, except perhaps play the organ. He founded and nurtured Campus Kids School at Ascension over 30 years with Sabine, and spent all his time with his family, or at the church and school. He was a strong leader, a dedicated churchman, and a role model in the community. Steve was well-loved in the wider community in his role as a social worker, and his involvement in school football. No one could ever replace him. Please join us in remembering and honoring Steve this Sunday afternoon, December 15 at Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset, NJ.
Visitation will be from 2:00 - 4:30 P.M. and a service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 4:30 P.M.
Please look out for a future date when we will remember and celebrate Steve's life and contributions together inside Ascension, the church he grew up in, loved and dedicated his life to. We offer thanks to God now for Steve's life and service. Gifts of flowers sent to Ascension for Sunday, January 5, or Sunday February 2 in Steve's honor are most welcome. Ascension will gratefully receive monetary donations made in Steve's memory sent to: Ascension Lutheran Church - 247 Somerset Street - New Brunswick, New Jersey, 08901. Please make checks out to Ascension Lutheran Church, memo: Stephen Kalman Remembrances. His church family is most grateful for your generosity. Steve was also a dedicated animal lover, and his family has invited friends and well-wishers to support one of several animal charities that Steve supported in his lifetime, listed in his obituary:
