Rezem was born in Jersey City, and grew up in the Somerset County town of Millstone. He graduated from Somerville High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy and was later stationed at the U.S. Naval Advanced Amphibious Base at Salcombe, Devon, England where he served as pharmacist mate and was an active participant in the Normandy invasion. He received a commendation in 1944 for outstandin
g devotion to duty and meritorious service. Upon his discharge from the service, Mr. Rezem enrolled at Eckels Mortuary School in Philadelphia, and he served a three-year apprenticeship with Goldstein Funeral Home. He opened Rezem Funeral Home in 1946 in South River, initially in a storefront location across from St. As business grew, he purchased a home on Main Street and transformed it into an elegant location. As business increased, he purchased land a few miles up the road in East Brunswick, where he designed and built a state-of-the-art facility, with oversized rooms, a modern preparation room, and the largest parking area in all of Middlesex County. Rezem was an active member of the Middlesex/Somerset County Funeral Directors Association and was a past president of the NJ State Funeral Directors Association. He belonged to several local clubs and activities, and was a tireless worker, dedicated to the needs of the families he served, and remained a constant presence until his passing in 2007.
