Gaining control of our lives is something that most people strive for. When life doesn't turn out the way that you expected (health scare, job loss, unexpected death of a loved one, etc.), how do you process it? For those of us who believe in Jesus, we can turn to Him for strength and support when life doesn't make sense. Psalm 118:8 says, "It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man." Rather than trusting in our own knowledge or fortitude, we can rely on Jesus to carry us through the storms of life.

If we're honest with ourselves, we're all in need of redemption. The Oxford English dictionary defines "redemption" this way: "The action of freeing, delivering, restoring, or reclaiming something." Before we even knew we needed deliverance and freedom, God was working out a plan to provide it. Jesus Christ came to earth as a suffering servant to be "pierced for our transgressions" and "crushed for our iniquities" (Isaiah 53:5). Christ's death on the cross is the ultimate moment of redemption. Let's take time today to reflect on the awful curse of sin AND on the beautiful liberation that Christ brings to human beings and the rest of creation.

"Where are you?" That's the question God asked of the first human beings after they had eaten from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 3:1-10). Adam's answer came from a place of fear and shame. God was inviting them into deeper connection with him, but they hid from God. I think this is a good question to ask ourselves; where are you mentally, emotionally, and spiritually? The next 40 days (the season leading up to the Christian celebration of Easter often known as Lent) can be a time of re-examination, restoration, and renewal. I invite you to start on this journey by reflecting on the question, "Where are you?"
