WORKERS’ MEMORIAL DAY
Each year on April 28th, Workers’ Memorial Day encourages national and international remembrance and action for workers killed, disabled, injured, or made unwell by their work. Also known as International Workers’ Memorial Day or International Commemoration Day (ICD) for Dead and Injured or Day of Mourning, the slogan for the day is Remember the dead – Fight for the living.
The day remembers workers killed in incidents at work or by diseases caused by work. Organizations around the world host events honoring workers lost work-related injuries or illnesses. Some organizations may hold campaigns and workplace awareness events. Other activities such as multi-faith religious services, laying wreaths, planting trees, and unveiling monuments, raise public awareness of issues. One of the most moving is the setting out of shoes to symbolize those who have died at work.
Transporation causes more work-place deaths than any other occupation. The next four most common reasons for workplace deaths are workplace violence (human and animal), slips and falls, contact with equipment and objects, and exposure to harmful substances and environments. However, these four cause more workplace deaths combined than transportation alone. The topmost dangerous occupations are agriculture, forestry, fishing, and hunting.
This day also highlights the preventable nature of most workplace accidents and ill-health. Additionally, it promotes the fight for improvements in workplace safety.
HOW TO OBSERVE
Remember employees and coworkers killed due to work-related injury or disease. Attend ceremonies or events raising awareness. Encourage your organization to support workforce safety. Use to post on social media.
WORKERS’ MEMORIAL DAY HISTORY
OSHA was founded on April 28, 1971. Canadian Union of Public Employees first observed Workers’ Memorial Day in 1984 followed by the United States in 1989. The House introduced Joint Resolution 235 to recognize the observance. Across the country, unions and organizations also recognized the day. For years, events have been organized in Canada and the USA and then worldwide.

Organ donation takes many forms, and there are teams of people involved to make donation happen. From family members supporting both donors and recipients to a broad network of advocates and medical professionals and specialists, a single donation requires a coordinated effort.
One organ donor can save upt to Eight lives. – UNOS
Donors and recipients require access to physical, medical and financial support before and after the donation. NATIONAL PICNIC DAY
On April 23rd, National Picnic Day encourages everyone to pack up their lunch and take it outdoors.
There are a variety of ways to take part in a picnic. This meal hearkens back to mid-18th-century al fresco French dining when all you needed was a bottle of wine, a loaf of bread, some cheese and fruit and you could have a party under the sky.
From the French for piquenique, picnic means a meal eaten outdoors.
From barbecues to simple cold plates, picnics are light informal affairs intended to be relaxing and fun for everyone to enjoy the day. Some favorite picnic foods include sandwiches, chips, fresh fruit and vegetables, light salads, and homemade bars. However, picnics can be expanded to include grilled items, too. Burgers and corn on the cob cook up nicely on a portable grill. During large picnics, guests often bring a dish to share creating a pot luck atmosphere.
The fresh air tends to rev up our appetite, so getting in some physical activity while enjoying a picnic is nice, too. Games of horseshoe, Frisbee, catch or flying a kite add to the fun of the day.
HOW TO OBSERVE
Celebrate this day by having a picnic of your own. Pack up a cooler or basket with a few of your favorite items. Make sure to include a beverage or two. Be sure to keep perishable items on ice so no one gets sick. Visit a favorite park or recreation area. Lay the blanket out in the sun or shade (whichever you prefer) and enjoy the day with a meal under the sky. Bring a Frisbee or a ball to toss around, too.
If the weather does not cooperate, have a picnic in your home on the living room floor! Share your photos on social media using

NATIONAL ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONALS’ DAY
National Administrative Professionals’ Day, also known as Secretaries Day or Admin Day, recognizes the professionals who keep an office running smoothly every day. Celebrate these professionals on the Wednesday of the last full week in April of each year. The day recognizes the work of secretaries, administrative assistants, receptionists, and other administrative support professionals. Central to any business, these professionals keep an office organized and efficient.

The day in the life of an administrative professional is varied from moment to moment. While organization is key to their success, their flexibility and ability to handle the unexpected make them valuable to any business. Some of their responsibilities include managing appointments, drafting letters and memos, booking business trips, coordinating appointments and planning meetings.
Administrative professionals compile data and research information, too. Their organizational skills mean they pinpoint information quickly and keep the executive on schedule, whether they are in transit or with a client. They are central to an office or business running efficiently.

NATIONAL LIMA BEAN RESPECT DAY
National Lima Bean Respect Day on April 20th gives the humble lima bean its due. When cooked, fresh lima beans have a creamy texture. However, dried lima beans once cooked serve up a bad reputation due to their graininess. There are ways to achieve smooth, buttery lima beans using dried beans.
First, it’s important to sort the beans and discard any wrinkled or cracked beans. Place the beans in a large bowl and cover them with three times as much water as you have beans. If any beans float to the top, immediately discard those, too. Soak the remaining beans overnight.
The next day, drain and rinse the beans three times. You want your water to run clear. Place the beans in a heavy saucepan and cover with fresh water. Bring the water to a boil and let simmer for about 1 hour or until the beans are tender. You can add them to other recipes and enjoy.
Lima beans are an excellent source of protein, iron, magnesium, potassium, and zinc. They can also increase energy levels by helping to restore more iron. Most of us have tried lima beans as a child and didn’t like them. It’s time to give them a second chance as adults. They are delicious in soups, stews, salads, casseroles, by themselves or mixed with other vegetables.
HOW TO OBSERVE
Enjoy lima beans with any of your meals as a way to celebrate the day. Share your thoughts about lima beans using on Social Media.

DISTRACTED DRIVINIG AWARENESS MONTH

During the month of April, several organizations unite under the same mission encourage everyone to drive with focus and to reach their destination safely. Distracted Driving Awareness Month puts safety first and text messages, arriving on time, and friends under the influence in the back seat.
According to 2016 statistics, the National Safety Council estimates as many as 40,000 people died on U.S. roadways. That’s a 6% increase over 2015 statistics and 14% over 2014. The NDC says that’s the most dramatic two-year increase in 53 years.
What can you do? Turn off your phone. Designate a sober driver. Reduce your speed. Crying children can wait until you can pull over safely. Wear your seat belt.
HOW TO OBSERVE
Take the pledge to stay focus and end distracted driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, National Safety Council, state, county and local law enforcement support campaigns increasing awareness to end distracted driving. Throughout the month of April, visit www.nsc.org or www.nhtsa.gov to learn more about what’s causing crashes, how to prevent them and what else you can do.

NATIONAL CLEAN OUT YOUR MEDICINE CABINET DAY
National Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet Day occurs annually on the third Friday in April. The day aims to raise awareness and effectively rid homes of unused or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications sitting in medicine cabinets, nightstands, or kitchen cabinets that have the potential for misuse or abuse by family members, friends or visitors.
How to Do it Right
How you dispose of your expired or unused medications is just as important as why. Environmental studies show that flushed medications flow into our water supply. They negatively impact the fish we eat and the water we drink. When discarded in the trash, medications leach into and contaminate the soil.

At-home drug disposal solutions offer a simple, convenient and effective way of disposing of unwanted medications. If you have large quantities of leftover medications or as a supplement to at-home drug disposal, you may also consider participating in the Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DEA’s) National Drug Takeback Day generally held in the spring and fall of each year.

HOW TO OBSERVE
Take time during National Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet Day to help remove your home of risks associated with leftover medications and do your part to help fight drug addiction. Review your medications—as well as those of your pets–wherever you store them, such as your medicine cabinet, nightstand, or kitchen cabinets. Then easily and effectively dispose of any leftover or expired medications by using an at-home disposal solution like DisposeRx.

Thank you for your interest in purchasing our DisposeRx at-home, abuse-deterrent. Solution. DisposeRx is committed to the eradication of unused medications.
