To think you’re "hearing" from God when you are not, that is a self-perpetuating and/or a demonic issue that cannot be resolved by a human being, but only by the Lord Himself!
Think about it. If people are being deceived that what they are "hearing" has godly authority, who could convince them otherwise? Especially if these people at the same time surround themselves with like-minded deceived people who are saying…”you are…we are hearing from God!”
Successful false teachers/cult-leaders convince their followers in this way and create a mighty stronghold in their followers’ lives. Plus, the false teachers/cult-leaders will certainly profit off their cunning and deceptive teachings and create confusion and wreak havoc, as per Scripture...
1 Timothy 6:3-5 warns against teachers who are corrupted in mind, deprived of the truth, and imagine that "godliness is a means to financial gain."
2 Peter 2:1-3 states that false teachers will secretly introduce destructive heresies and "in their greed...exploit you with fabricated stories."
Titus 1:10-11 describes rebellious people who mislead others "for the sake of dishonest gain" and "they are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach."
Jude 1:11 condemns those who "rush for profit into Balaam's error," referring to the Old Testament prophet who used his spiritual office for a financial reward.
The vulnerable crave (because they are hurting and looking for a solution) and will eventually and many times unknowingly be indoctrinated because they desperately want to hear from the Lord, but sadly they don't know how to according to the Bible. They want peace, and the false teacher will convince them how to attain it through their abhorrent teaching. However, it will be a manufactured, feelings-based false peace. Scripture precisely and clearly instructs true Christ-followers how to have peace. No extra-biblical instructions are necessary. Honestly, many times the lack of discernment comes from a lack of discipleship. One could rightly ask…where is the Holy Spirit in all of this? Breaks my heart! 💔
Those victimized will say things like they are not going back to their pre-deceived beliefs. Scripture alone will not be enough to convince them any more of their errors. And there you have it once this occurs…the definitive evidence of a stronghold, created in them by the false teacher with the devil behind the curtain pulling the strings. He convinces his victims that extra revelation is necessary and the Bible is not enough, and at the same time persuades and waters down the Sufficiency and Authority of Scripture. His followers become duped. The veiling of Truth occurs.
And the sad irony, the followers of the deception typically think they are the ones that have the methods to break strongholds - when in fact they themselves are the victims of a stronghold. It’s so twisted…vivid fingerprints of the devil. Again, only the Lord could obliterate this veil of deception!
I have encountered people that have fallen prey to this, and it is very sad. All you could do is pray that the Lord intervenes and does whatever it takes to break the stronghold in the victim’s life. He absolutely could and I and our ministry have seen deliverance from this horrific condition a time or two...praise Him! It requires the Sword of the Spirit, also known as the Word of God - the Great Physicians scalpel to cut out this "cancer." Otherwise, an untreated "cancer," well, you know… 😢
“Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be miserable and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.” (James 4:7-10)
