Would you trust driving on a very dark road you have never been down before and just blow right past an “Under Construction” barrier, consequently driving blindly right past the sign? Of course not!!!

The true Christ-follower has a new Spirit within them (the Holy Spirit), but his/her heart is still “under construction” until glorification (a.k.a. when you enter into eternity and become like the Lord). Hence, he/she must fully trust in the indwelling Holy Spirit within them, which should always lead in a way that is 100% aligned with God’s Word - with no deviation whatsoever. The follower of Christ should NEVER trust in the unfinished work of “the heart” - which starts off totally corrupt. If you do, the results can be catastrophic!

“The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; who can understand it?” ‭‭(Jer ‭17‬:‭9‬)

Always watch the “fruit” produced from counseling, both the good and the bad type.

As far as holiness goes…

As true Christ-followers, we are made holy in regard to our position in Christ (justification).

“He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (‭‭2 Cor‬ ‭5‬:‭21‬)

Practically speaking, we are a “work in progress” in regard to living out our faith and being made more holy, consequently becoming more and more like Christ (sanctification).

“Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” ‭‭(2 Cor‬ ‭7‬:‭1)

Let us change our perspective on our weaknesses, that they actually may be the source of our greatest strength (sourced from the Lord: Eph 6:10)...shall we???

* My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness
* ...I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me
* ...I am well content with weaknesses
* ...for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong

from...

“Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me—to keep me from exalting myself! Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.” ‭‭(2 Corinthians‬ ‭12‬:‭7‬-‭10‬)

Ryle right?

“For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ” (2 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭3‬-‭5‬)

What if I told you 4-5 seconds is widely cited (a.k.a. "the 5-Second Rule") as the amount of time you have between having a thought and acting on it? It’s not a lot of time…but it definitely gives you some time.

So, when someone says something like “there was no time to even think about it” and that’s how they try to excuse something they did wrong - it’s simply not true. For normal people, there is always an opportunity not to do wrong, whether you think so or not. There is a way of escape, especially when it comes to temptation, and Scripture leaves no doubt about it!

“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” (‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭13‬)
