Let’s go deep. Here is how the different gospels work together.
1. One Message, Multiple Descriptions
The gospel is described by its source, God. Its subject, Christ. Its nature, grace and peace. Its scope, the kingdom and the everlasting. Its effect, salvation.
2. One Gospel, Different Emphases
Matthew emphasizes the kingdom. Mark emphasizes the power of Christ. Luke emphasizes grace unto all people. John emphasizes everlasting life through belief.
3. One Gospel, Different Audiences
Peter preached to the circumcision. Paul preached to the uncircumcision. Yet the core message is identical, as seen in Galatians 2:7–9.
Peter preached a "different gospel" regarding the Gospel of the Kingdom. The Jews who weren't proselytes got saved differently but their redemption is still through faith.
Paul preaches in 1 Corinthians 15:1–4 the gospel of the mystery revealed unto him. This is the dispensation in which we now live. We need not rituals or baptism to reach Christ, but simply faith in His death, burial, and resurrection.
4. One Gospel, Different Angles
The gospel of God emphasizes His initiative. The gospel of Christ emphasizes His finished work. The gospel of grace emphasizes the manner of salvation. The gospel of peace emphasizes the result of salvation.
The Bottom Line
Whether you read Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter or Paul, you hear the same redemptive message, but different audiences. There is no contradiction. Only complementary perspectives on one unified gospel.
