With our beautiful Country, the USA, celebrating its 250th anniversary and it being Memorial Day, it seemed appropriate to post these pics from Bob and my trip to Hawaii in February. We find it interesting to visit cemeteries when we travel.
We had the honor of visiting The Honolulu Memorial and the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific . The "Punchbowl" or Hawaiian name "Puowaina" translated "Hill of Sacrifice is located in an extinct volcano near the center of Honolulu. On each side of the grand stairs are eight courts of the missing on which are inscribed the names of the 18,095 Americans missing from WW II (included is just one panel) but there are also panels for the Korean and Vietnam Wars. At the top of the stairs is a beautiful chapel and on each side of it are beautiful, detailed mosaic maps with descriptions of achievements of American armed forces in the central and south Pacific regions and in Korea (included are just a few of the pics).
It was absolutely beautiful, but unfortunately, we only had about 30 minutes until it closed and our Uber said he would be fined if we did not leave prior to it closing.
Bob and I felt honored to spend time in this beautiful place and to honor, not only these soldiers, but all that served over the 250 years. God bless our Veterans. God bless the USA.
