Welcome to the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Dyersburg, Tennessee. You can just call us “The Cumberland Church”, everyone in town does. We are so happy that you are curious about our church and hope that this portion of our website will help to answer any questions that you may have or a least give you a little better understanding about who we are. On a typical Sunday morning worship se

rvice you can expect those in attendance to number 175-200. We currently have one worship service on Sunday mornings at 10:15 AM. Our 10:15 AM worship is also live streamed through our website at www.cumberlandchurch.com. Starting at 9:00 AM on Sunday mornings, we have several Discipleship/Bible Study/Small groups that meet prior to morning worship. Some of these groups have been meeting for several decades, but they are always eager to welcome new folks. Also, we have children and youth activities on Wednesday nights from 6:00-7:30pm. So, whether you are eight or eighty AND whether there is one of you or a whole family, we have Sunday morning worship and discipleship opportunities for you each week. Today was a little bit of Nashville fun before heading west. The Country Music Hall of Fame then lunch at Hard Rock Cafe. We are home safe & sound & HOPEFULLY considering what God’s invitation is after our experience- that was my encouragement & will be my prayer.

Today was our final day of work
•Maddie & Embrey led our final devotion of the week and finished us off perfectly
•We finished off VBS and through Zacchaeus learned that Jesus sees us. Goodbyes were said & tears were shed
•we packed up & cleaned up. Cleaned a LOT!
•we took a Cpl loads to the dump & another to the recycling center
•we loaded up 20 cots that Sacred Sparks Ministry is sharing w/ Matthew 25:40 (Misty Hutcheson) - how neat is that!? 2 non-profits 3 hrs apart sharing resources!
•we visited St Luke CP to see Sacred Sparks’ laundry room & hear its story
•I’ve learned that a deck of Uno cards, bubbles & a soccer ball are what the Holy Spirit uses to build community
•we reflected like we do at the end of each day and they shared the stories that have shaped them this week. And they received lots of love from the adults in the circle who spoke to them of the goodness they are.
My brain is too mushy to form more words so ask any of them to share their stories with you - they’ll tell them better than I!

Day 3
•Angel & Mylah started us off with a devotion (their 1st time leading one!) focusing on serving with humility
•we VBS-ed
•we made enough spaghetti to feed ourselves supper AND freeze for Sacred Sparks to use
•we baked cupcakes to freeze so that when a Sacred Sparks friend has a bday they can be pulled out to celebrate with
•the room we’ve cleaned out & sorted through has been re-stocked & organized
•we’ve cleaned out some supplies from Pastor Lisa’s garage and brought them to Brush Hill
•these youth of ours can GET IT DONE. they work hard - and relational ministry is where it’s at for them. They’re scooping up stories & being changed by what they’re hearing
Tomorrow will be our last day of work, and I’m not sure who’ll be more heartbroken to say goodbye: Cumberland Youth or Sacred Sparks kids 💜

Day 2 features our trip tshirts! Check out those awesome supporters who helped get us here!
Tyler started our day with a devotion on the body of Christ & encouraged us to use ALL the ways we were created to contribute to the needs of the day.
We prepped for VBS; we sorted a room’s worth of supplies & put together the shelves to organize it all; we sang, learned that Jesus Loves Children; played outside; got creative; grilled and made homemade Mac-n-Cheese; played several ACTIVE rounds of musical chairs; cleaned up & cleaned out. Mrs Angie treated them to an afternoon pick-me-up & you guessed it: they’re in the pool to finish out the day.
I wish you could see them in action. I wish you could listen to them as they reflect theologically on the day. You’d be amazed.

We arrived in Nashville yesterday afternoon and hit the ground running. Thanks to all the parents & grandparents who got us loaded and to Mr John for coming to pray for us as we left!
We began w/ worship & welcomed Ean & Lizzie, 2 local CP youth workers, who led music for worship. And then we got to work preparing for VBS.
Today Case started us off w/ a morning devotion & then we hosted VBS for the children & families Sacred Sparks serves - 24 children & their parents sang, danced, created, played & heard the good news that when we are scared Jesus is with us. We cleaned out a storage room for Sacred Sparks & secured some shelving units for organization. And that was Day 1! And now, in true Cumberland Youth fashion they’re finishing the day in the hotel pool.
God was kind today & during our theological reflection Maddie noted the loveliness of the joy on the face of one little friend. We held the truth that in the same way we delighted in our new friends’ joy, God delights in ours. Pray for good rest & on to Day 2!
