“Kingdom-Minded Minute”
During the recent Social Distancing, Safer-at-Home/Shelter in Place, or loss of job, more families are spending more time together. Last week, I was working with my son on his school work and one of the assignments was to read an article and complete the questions that followed. No Problem. I can do this. The article was an interesting one that had Biblical principles that we can all benefit from.
The story is set in the continent of Africa near the Congo region. It talked about a young girl who lived in a village without running water (Very Common). It was the girls responsibility to gather water for their family each day while the other family members did other things. But the thrust of the story was that this young girl would leave her hut each day at 4:30am and travel through forest terrain among snakes, which was enough for me, through the dark to finally reach a streambed to stand in line to gather 2-3 gallons of water to carry on her back and travel the several mile hike twice a day so that her family could have water. Also the water is filled with bacteria and that have to boil the water to make it usable. Some bacteria remains and several people die each year from water related illnesses. This young girl could potentially be carrying the water on her back that may end up taking her life. But all the while, she dreamed of a better day when she could attend school regularly and even start her own school one day.
Without fear, and with full determination, this young girl knew that the source for life began with the life giving power of water. It sustains us. Our bodies are comprised of of it. If we don’t consume it, we will have many health complications and ultimately die without it.
Isn’t this true as well with the Word of God. Sure, you may have to get up early. Sure, you may have to travel great distances spiritually. Sure, you may have to face many dangers along the way. But the Word of God is worth the trip.
The young girl decided that the several mile trip, heavy water on her back, facing eminent danger, getting up early, doing the work while others may be doing much less work or safer work was WORTH it. It was a priority daily. It was normal and not abnormal as it was for me and my son reading it.
Choose to fight for the Word of God. It is our SOURCE. It gives us life just as it gave for the young girl and her family.
John 1:4-5 King James Version (KJV)
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
Just as clutch to families and spend time with them, spend time with the Father who makes all things possible. Sure, it may require a little work. It will be worth it.
God Bless and tune in to the next “Kingdom-Minded Minute.
