Volume 14 Issue 5- The Three "R's" of Being A Christian

Today's lesson is not going to deal with those three "R's" that we are all familiar with, reading, riting, and rithmetic. Rather, we will be looking at the three “R’s" for the life of the true Christian and his/her experience of salvation: Regeneration, Restoration, and Renovation.

Volume 14 Issue 4- In All Things

Just when I'm ready to give up on myself, the Lord reminds me not to give up on Him. With that said, I'm profoundly speechless when I consider God's faithfulness and compassion. Even from the confines of imprisonment, as my struggling heart wants to succumb to the sadness that's tied to a sordid past, I'm encouraged to remember God's sanctifying work and the eternal hope that's anchored in being a Christian

Volume 14 Issue 3- Fools No More

Synonyms for the word fool include words like senseless, imprudent, absurd, brash, and reckless. And let's not forget the insulting slang word for fool; boneheaded. Safe to say that when someone uses the word fool to describe another, they're NOT extending a compliment or communicating honor.

Volume 14 Issue 2- When We Don't Give

Life is ever evolving and changing for all of us, whether it's being lived from prison or from the outside. The struggle of faith is no respecter of persons.

Volume 14 Issue 1- Meek Is Weak

In that moment, we sat down at a designated table in the dayroom with two other Christians to have a Bible study, which offended two of our neighbors. And just like that, four men in prison are "jammed up." The good news is that we were able to talk about the situation, explain our position, and make amends with our entitled neighbors. Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed, and four Christians were allowed to walk Mainline for another day...

Volume 13 Issue 11- TOT ... but God

As I bring my testimony to the I.B.O.C., I must start with the phrase, "but God."

Have you ever paid attention to the placement of those words in the Bible? They're everywhere in the scriptures. That phrase usually follows some less-than ideal condition or set of circumstances. The words "but God" usually serves as a transition point for the Creator to express His mercy and inexhaustible grace on the creatures.

Volume 13 Issue 10- The Roadmap For Life
As Christians, not only do we recognize the Word of God as the roadmap for a God honoring/Christ exalting life, it's also the compass we rely on when we're looking for the right directions. In a postmodern world that finds its wisdom in secular humanism, the psalmist gives the believer the truth regarding the holy scriptures.

Volume 13 Issue 9- God's Man for God's Men

Amidst constant violence, lockdowns, and gang related drama, Chaplain Alden would make his rounds throughout the four living units, offer a smile and support through the secure metal door, and make sure that the incarcerated body of Christ was cared for and encouraged.

Volume 13 Issue 8- God's Glory and The Prisoner

And not only are there consistent challenges between husbands and wives, the reality of a relationship with prison in the middle of it can either be the anvil that strengthens love or be the hard steel that breaks it. In the course of thirteen years, I've seen both reali-ties play out. From the vantage point of living and loving from prison, it takes an extraordinary couple to overcome the countless challenges that come with incarceration if loving each other is going to stay true, steadfast, focused, and patient for the gate.

Volume 13 Issue 7- Two Days In Prison
..a prisoner's personal integrity and character are just as intact when he arrived on his first day and will be just as intact when he's released on his last. In a sense, all the days in between are insignificant. When it comes to personal growth, fortitude, and courage, prison can never take away that part of us that's been forged in the fires of trials and adversity.

Volume 13 Issue 6- Things Are Not What They Seem To Be

Here is a glimpse of what is called "retribution theology." In Jesus' day this was a kind of traditional "folk wisdom" that held to the notion that good behavior was always rewarded, and bad behavior was always punished by God.

Volume 13 Issue 5- Where Are The Answers?

The longer I purpose myself as a disciple of Christ in prison, a few questions continue to flood my mind and heart. Most of us can relate to the endless questions that rage in our lives that attempt to thwart the work of the Spirit within us.
