Beth El Synagogue

Beth El Synagogue Beth El is a pluralistic community and welcomes members who have diverse backgrounds, ideas, levels of knowledge, and observance.

Beth El Synagogue is a vibrant and inclusive Jewish community dedicated to nurturing diverse and dynamic continuity from generation to generation—l’dor vador ודור לדור—through many doors. We are an egalitarian Conservative congregation and a member of the Southeast Seaboard District of the United Synagogue for Conservative Judaism, which hosts this website. We also offer an Orthodox Kehillah affiliated with the Orthodox Union for those who wish to worship in accordance with that tradition.

We denounce any kind of hate, and stand with our Muslim brothers and sisters in solidarity, and we grieve and honor those who gave their lives to protect others.

As we approach Shavuot, Rabbi Daniel Greyber had some thoughts about creating communities who care.

Grateful to have the incredible Rabbi Greyber leading our community with wisdom, humility, and courage. His latest op-ed is thoughtful, educational, and deeply worth the read. We are proud to learn from and alongside him every day.

Now that it’s been featured in the Times of Israel, we of course had to share it again. 😊

Daniel Greyber is rabbi at Beth El Synagogue in Durham, NC and author of Faith Unravels: A Rabbi's Struggle With Grief and God.
