June 10 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
Via Zoom
$25.00 – $45.00

There is a kind of stillness available to us that lives below the noise of daily life — in the body, in the breath, in the quiet center of the heart.

The Heart of Mindfulness is a 90-minute live online workshop that explores heart-centered practices. Research shows that heart-centered mindfulness practices can reduce stress, calm the nervous system, and cultivate positive emotions, including love, joy, gratitude, and awe. Through guided meditation and mindful writing, you’ll explore how these practices can become a genuine refuge in your everyday life.

This workshop is for anyone who wants to feel more at home in themselves and the world. Please bring a journal or paper and pens.

Cost: $25, $30, $35, $40, or $45 – sliding scale

We are hard at work producing the Jereann King Johnson documentary project. Will you help us reach our $10,000 goal?

Here at RCWMS, we are passionate about sharing stories that energize and sustain artists, activists, and community leaders. Because of this commitment, we are thrilled to partner with the Black Feminist Film School and Elevate Media to produce a feature-length documentary film that will tell the story of Jereann King Johnson.

“The Art of Retreating, RCWMS-Style” is out now!

Notes from the Labyrinth, a RCWMS blog, is written by Claire Hambrick, RCWMS Art Coordinator and 50th Anniversary Curator.

“Come to the beach. Rest your body, gaze at the water, listen to the wind. This retreat for women offers time to play, renew the creative self, and feel the presence of the sacred through the practice of meditation.” So reads the first paragraph of a bright yellow flyer from the 2003 ‘Creativity and Spirituality’ retreat with RCWMS….

Walking a labyrinth is an ancient spiritual tool for reflection. The 40’x40’ labyrinth laid out on the floor of the sanctuary is a replica of the labyrinth found on the floor of Chartres Cathedral. Prayer stations on the perimeter provide resources for those who walk.

As we ease our way into the Spring, we look back at February and reflect on February 12, which marks the 90th birthday of artist Meinrad Craighead.

Meinrad was a visual artist who spent her life exploring the human-divine relationship in her work, with an emphasis on images of God as the Great Mother.

As we celebrate her birthday, we think of this image you see here. Some of Meinrad’s happiest memories were on the porch swing with her beloved Memaw in Little Rock, Arkansas. Here she imagines the music of crickets as an angel playing castanets. Can you smell the gardenias that perfumed that night? One of her dogs guards the threshold. Happy Birthday, Meinrad! This world misses you!

Prints of “Memory” and many other works by Meinrad are available at rcwms.org/shop

In addition to Women’s History Month, March is also National Quilting Month! Recently our Director of Programming, Chloé Griffin, visited the renowned Fearrington Folk Art Show to support artist, quilter, and Creative Director of the Kindred Spirits Quilt Conference, Kimberley Pierce Cartwright, who was featured this year as an artist at the weekend-long show at Fearrington Village. Congratulations, Kimberley!

At RCWMS, quilting is an art form and passion that we continue to celebrate by uplifting quilters and their incredible, impactful work.
