Oct 9-12, a group of climate scientists are doing a tour of presentations around the Triangle. This non-partisan group aims to present the basic evidence of climate science in an accessible way, so that people can make their own, informed decisions about what to do. Each event will have the same essential content, but they’re offering many times and locations so you can find one that works for you. During Hispanic Heritage Month, we are pleased to welcome Rev. Ismael Ruiz-Millán on October 11, 2026. Ismael serves as the Executive Director of Connectional Ministries for the North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church, providing strategic and relational leadership in support of the Conference’s vision of healthy congregations and effective leaders in every place, making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
An ordained Elder in the North Carolina Conference, Ismael was born and raised in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, Mexico, and brings more than twenty years of pastoral and connectional leadership shaped by multicultural ministry, global engagement, and a commitment to justice, reconciliation, and peacebuilding. He began his ministry in 2004, serving bilingual and multicultural congregations in North Carolina.
Previously, Ismael served at Duke Divinity School as Director of the Hispanic House of Studies and Global Education & Intercultural Formation, forming clergy and lay leaders from the United States and Latin America with a focus on pastoral care, intercultural formation, and mission. This morning, we had our “Blessing of the Animals” service! We were so happy to celebrate our furry and scaly friends! Each animal, stuffy, and picture of an animal received a blessing and prayer by our pastors. Creation Care is one of the pillars of Epworth and blessing our animals is just one way we can care for creation together!
