St. Titus' Episcopal Church, Durham

St. Titus' Episcopal Church, Durham Holy Eucharist, Rite II, on Facebook, is at 10:30 A.M. every Sunday. St. MISSION STATEMENT
St. Titus’ will be Beloved Community. We love unconditionally.

Titus’ Episcopal Church is a vibrant, welcoming, historic, predominantly black parish which, through Divine Guidance, serves God and our community by opening doors, ears, eyes, and hearts as we minister to all people. Titus’ is a diverse and growing community committed to walking with Christ by serving others, pursuing justice and welcoming all. VISION STATEMENT
God dreams for St.Titus’ to be sacr

ed ground where all of God’s children
experience the unconditional love of Jesus. In faithful response, we will offer
Spirit-filled worship where people from diverse backgrounds encounter God. As an intergenerational community, we will deepen our faith through sharing
scripture, Christian tradition and our own experience. We will be open and
authentic with one another, and respond to the needs of our neighbors with
compassion and creativity. Our passion for God’s justice and peace will compel us to become agents for social, political, and economic transformation. VALUES STATEMENT
LOVE : We find joy and fulfillment in our relationships with God, ourselves and one another, patiently persisting through adversity, despair, conflict, and suffering. When confronted by anger and resentment, we practice forgiveness and reconciliation. JUSTICE: Justice is the public face of love. Our society must be set up in such a way that everyone has what they need to flourish and be in right relationship with one another. We engage our institutions and communities in the spirit of Ubuntu: “I am because we are.” We ourselves cannot be whole until all are made whole. SERVICE: Following the example of Jesus, we prayerfully discern and minister to the needs of others — both within St. Titus’ and beyond — with compassionate presence, providing spiritual, emotional and financial support. WELCOME: As a historically Black church, we welcome others because we know how it feels to be made unwelcome. We affirm the worth and dignity of every human being, celebrating individual diversity and embracing the common ties that bind us together.

Yesterday we celebrated Trinity Sunday and our guest preacher, Dr. Agatha Nolen, shared a wonderful sermon that sought to enlighten us on the nature of the Holy Trinity. Thank you, Dr. Nolen.
We also celebrated Parishioner Achievement Sunday, and we recognized the many achievements of our parishioners. Here are some photos from yesterday’s wonderful service.

Upon entering St. Titus on a Sunday morning, one of the first things that catches one’s attention is a beautifully appointed altar. It evokes a sense of the holy, and we bow or genuflect in front of it to show our reverence for the elements of the Eucharist that are present there. What we generally do not think about is the behind-the-scenes work that the Altar Guild has done to make it so evocative of divine grace. At this morning’s service, we honored all members of the Altar Guild—those who quietly work to make the altar the powerful symbol that it is. We greatly appreciate their devoted service to St. Titus’ and all who worship there. Thank you, Altar Guild members!

May 4-May 8, 2026, was Teacher Appreciation Week. On May 6, Lisa Barnes, and Francine Davis, delivered 80 St. Titus’ ECW sponsored goody bags to CC Spaulding, and sweet treats to Burton Elementary, to honor the Educators who are working hard to educate our future leaders. Thank you to all Educators for your vital work, and thank you Lisa and Francine for delivering the goody bags.

Photo of the St. Titus’ altar party at the Pentecost Eucharistic Service they celebrated at the Wade H. Chestnut Memorial Chapel at Topsail Beach. The photo was shared by a vestry member of the chapel who said that she and many others members of the chapel “love it” when St. Titus’ joins them to lead worship. Thank you Rev. Valerie, Robyn, Grey, and Gigi, for sharing your gifts with so many in the true spirit of Pentecost.
