We are so proud of our own Margaret Keller, who was recently honored as a Legacy Award recipient at the Lincoln Community Health Center Foundation's Annual Legacy Award Luncheon!

The Legacy Award recognizes pioneers and exceptional leaders who have made Lincoln Community Health Center a vital part of the Durham community, a health center that serves over 36,000 men, women, and children each year who depend on it for primary care.

Margaret, this recognition is so well deserved. We are grateful to call you part of our FPC family, and we celebrate the way you pour yourself into this city. Durham is better because of you.

Earlier this month we celebrated Confirmation Sunday as 11 incredible young people were welcomed into membership of our congregation.

We are so proud of:
Sibu Admay | David Armstrong | Michael Baker | Colin Bethune | Logan Brown | Doran Cummings | Rory Dillon | Rhys McClain-Huslage | Cordi Ramont | Karl Sims | Tate Weicher

This year's class wrote their own confession of faith, The Flat Creek Creed, named for the body of water running through Montreat, where they had their capstone retreat. It's a beautiful, faithful statement that reflects both their own faith journeys and the heart of who we are as a congregation.

We're grateful for the families, Friends in Faith, and teaching team of Annie Gentithes, Cris Rivera, and John Weicher, who walked alongside them every step of the way.

To our confirmands: the church is better because you are in it. Welcome home.

Every Monday and Thursday morning, our doors open.

Not just for members. For neighbors.
Our Walk-In Ministry offers financial assistance, referrals, encouragement, and prayer to anyone in Durham experiencing financial hardship. Volunteers are here from 9am–noon to help with utility or rent bills, or to simply be present with people in a hard season.

Need a hand?
Durham households can receive up to $150 once a year toward a utility or rent bill. Bring your bill and photo ID to the church entrance facing the library on a Monday or Thursday morning. Can't make it in person? Call 919-682-5511 and leave a message, and a volunteer will try and get back to you.

Have a hand to lend?
We're always grateful for volunteers who want to show up on Monday or Thursday mornings and be with our neighbors. Contact us to learn more.

This is just part of what it looks like to be downtown by history and by choice.

What a night! ✨

Sunday evening, FPC filled the floor at Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship to celebrate 10 years of ministry with the one and only Mindy Douglas.

Heart-felt words were spoken, wonderful memories were shared, and there was more than a little laughter. Still, words weren't enough to express what Mindy's ministry has meant to each of us, to this congregation, and to this city.

In true Mindy fashion, the night wasn't just about celebrating her. Guests brought packages of diapers to donate to the Diaper Bank of North Carolina, because Mindy has spent a decade leading us to show up for Durham, and this just was one more opportunity.

And then... we danced.

Thank you, Mindy. Here's to ten years of prophetic, joyful, justice-rooted ministry, and many, many more to come!

Today is Pentecost Sunday, the day the church remembers wind rushing through a locked room, fire landing on ordinary people, and a story that was never supposed to stay contained.

Join us at First Pres this morning at 11 AM as we gather to worship together and share communion on this special day in the life of the church.

Staff retreat day looked like this: woods through every window, markers uncapped, papers spread across a long wooden table, and the kind of conversations that only happen when you take a whole day to have them.

On Wednesday, the FPC Durham staff gathered at The Trees Retreat Center to talk vision and culture as we welcome new colleagues and prepare for several transitions ahead this summer. We shared meaningful objects from home, ate a beautiful family-style lunch, and laughed more than we expected to.

Grateful for this team and for St. Philip's Episcopal Church, who generously share The Trees with the wider community.

If you missed Saturday morning at FPC Durham, here's what you missed: scripts in hand, coffee nearby, and Thornton Wilder's "Our Town" coming to life in our own Fellowship Hall. First Acts gathered to read the play together and talk about it afterward, and the photos say more than we can.

A quick clarification, because First Acts is a little different: it's a fellowship activity, not a fellowship group. You don't join it. You just sign up when the next play is announced. It's like a fellowship lunch, but with a script.

Huge thanks to Mason Essif for organizing, Chris Uithoven for staging, Christyn Klinck for the photos, and everyone who came to read. Stay tuned for what's next.
