β€œIn his Dharma teachings, Buddha advises us not to seek happiness outside ourself, but to establish it within our mind.” - Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, Introduction to Buddhism

What makes Buddhist meditation Buddhist? There are many things that are unique to Buddhist meditation in particular, one of the most important being the Buddhist understanding of the mind. OVERCOMING ANGER MEDITATION RETREAT

Sat May 30
10am-12:30pm
$20/non-members, discounts with a membership

Most of us tend to think that our problems are coming at us from outside of our mind - from other people, from situations, or even from our own intrinsic shortcomings. Buddhist teachings, however, show that all our problems actually arise from our habitual ways of responding to things. If we can learn to respond to challenging situations with peaceful states of mind, gradually we will have fewer and fewer problems.

This mini meditation retreat will share timeless methods to let go of anger, irritation, and resentment and cultivate positive and peaceful responses to life’s challenges.

Introduction to the Path to Enlightenment: Mahayana Buddhist Meditation

Meditation classes with teachings by Nancy Fox

Thursdays, April 16 - July 23
Cost: $10/class, members free

β€œAll the happiness there is in this world arises from wishing others to be happy.”
-Shantideva, quoted in The New Meditation Handbook

All our present and future happiness depends on our cherishing others - on our
wanting others to be happy. This is real love, and the foundation of the compassion and wisdom that are the path to enlightenment. The immediate effect of cherishing others will be that many of our daily problems, such as those that arise from anger, jealousy, and selfish behavior, will disappear, and our mind will become calm and peaceful.

In these classes, we will introduce the main Mahayana Buddhist meditations that are the path to enlightenment. Start at the beginning of the series if you can, but if you miss the beginning then start when you are able.

April 16 - Meditation on Unbalanced Attitudes: Developing Equanimity
April 23 - Meditation on Affectionate Love: Recognizing that all Living Beings are
Our Mothers
April 30 - Meditation on Gratitude: Remembering the Kindness of Living Beings
May 7 - Meditation on Sharing Our Love: Equalizing Self and Others
May 14 - Meditation on the Deception of the Ego: The Disadvantages of Self-
cherishing
May 21 - Meditation on Loving Kindness: The Advantages of Cherishing Others
