A late Saturday night post from your pastor:

I have just completed tomorrow's sermon. It will be the most important sermon preached tomorrow in the State of Oklahoma and north Texas.

I do not say this with sarcasm. Nor do I say this to exalt myself. I tell you this because I am here to teach the truth of God's word. I am fully persuaded in this conviction and the purpose of my message.

Let Christ alone be exalted.

See you in the morning.

Wednesday night Bible study is almost completely dead in American churches. There are many factors that attribute to this.

The uncomfortable truth is, churches share much of the blame. This is because so many churches do not actually have Bible study. Instead, they have group sessions in which a verse (at most two) are read, and the entire "study" is just a group of people talking about "what this verse means to me."

That is not Bible study.

Bible study is not about what the verse means to you. Bible study is not about personal feelings.

Bible study is about finding truth. Churches must get back to finding the truth of God's word. It is not about making a verse about us. It is about studying the words on the page and understanding what the Bible says.

If the goal is not truth, then Bible study becomes pointless.

What is a strong church?

A strong church is not defined by its numbers. Neither is it defined by the emotionalism observed within the preacher or the congregation.

The sole metric for a strong church is the unity of doctrine. A church in which all members agree on what is truth is a church that is positioned to withstand whatever comes against it. Churches that chase trends and numbers will ultimately fall. Every single time.
