The question never quite goes away, "Do Christians HAVE to go to church?"

Here are my thoughts:

It seems to me that Christianity is a vertical relationship with God that is lived horizontally within the life of the local church. The church is the team, Christians are the players.

Nothing makes less theological sense to me than the thought that there is little or no linkage between Christ and His Church. The New Testament establishes that the Church IS the physical presence of Christ until Christ returns.

It is the only game in town.

Period.

Do you know what you call a baseball player without a team? A bat owner. Baseball is a team sport and there is no concept of an individual player apart from a team. Baseball is about the team, not the player.

A Christian who sees no need for the church is like a baseball player who sees no need for a team. A skilled player not on a team is a loss at best and a waste at worst.

I am sometimes asked, "Do you HAVE to go to church to be a true Christian?"

My response is, "Absolutely not!

Christians will WANT to go to church."
