Last week, Donaldson-Bannister Farm became the backdrop for The Aviary, filled with w**e, food, conversation and connection.

That’s what makes this place so special. There’s history in every corner, but also room to create something entirely your own.

🐄 What is a dairy cow doing at Donaldson-Bannister Farm?

Actually, she's right where she belongs.

Today we welcomed Kirby the Cow, part of a county-wide public art project celebrating DeKalb County's agricultural heritage.

Kirby is named for the Kirby family, who operated a dairy along Chamblee Dunwoody Road in the days when DeKalb County was one of the South's leading milk producers. The Kirby dairy helped sustain the family through the Great Depression, according to family memoirs. [
Before Dunwoody became the community we know today, dairy farms were a familiar sight across the landscape. Kirby is a fun reminder that local history isn't just found in books. It's all around us.

Soon she'll receive her custom artistic makeover. Until then, be sure to say hello when you visit the farm!

An award-winning historian specializing in early American history, the American Revolution, and the colonial South, Dr. Greg Brooking will explore the difficult choices Georgians faced on the eve of the Revolution and ask the question: “If you had lived in Georgia in 1775, which side would you have chosen? The answer may not be as obvious as it seems today.
