First Presbyterian Church of Dunn

First Presbyterian Church of Dunn To anyone looking for hope, Jesus would extend an invitation:
"Come and see," he'd say. "Follow me." Our worship service begins each Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

We seek to be faithful to the tradition of our forebears by offering meaningful worship that engages the entire person — heart, mind, body and soul. We also seek to respond to the calling of our Lord to love our neighbors and to share the gospel of Jesus’ redeeming love with the world.

Your help is urgently needed! After a dangerous drop in scheduled appointments, we're asking donors of all blood types to give to help keep the blood and platelet supply strong this summer.

When you come to give blood for our drive on Tuesday, June 23, you’ll receive a $15 e-gift card to the merchant of your choice as a thank-you. Make an appointment to donate blood today: https://links.fpcdunn.com/blooddrive

Friends, we received notice that beloved former FPC pastor, Rev. Grant Sharp, has died.

Today we give thanks for all the saints who from their labor rest. Today we give thanks for Grant Sharp who has heard these words from Jesus, “Well done good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your master.”

Many in Dunn and FPC remember Grant as a dear minister, friend, and neighbor. May the God of all comfort, hope, and peace accompany all who love Grant in these days.

Our Pastor emeritus, the Reverend Grant McGuffin Sharp has died.

I (Pastor Jeremy) write this to you the way he and I discussed several years ago. Grant told me he didn’t want us to use the phrase, “He passed away,” when communicating this moment. In his words: “I lived. I died. I had a good life.”

Of the many titles one may earn, “Pastor” is perhaps one of the most honorable. Pastors earn their titles not by the learning and education they have achieved, nor does the title come simply because of an ordination. It arrives to a special individual when the congregation they serve recognizes the unique bond and relationship that unites a congregant to the one called by God to serve. No number of accolades merits this title to God’s servant; it comes simply from each one who has felt and received love from the person whose role it is to shepherd a community and family.

Grant was our Pastor. Now, God has given him rest and peace after many years of ministry, decades of being father to Emily and Dan, and a lifetime of loving his wife, Carolyn. He was surrounded by them in his own home, as had been his wish.

A minister of Christ Jesus, a mentor to those entrusted to him, and a friend of all, the Rev. Sharp completed his baptism in the Lord and now—we pray—resides in the promise toward which his life and ministry faithfully pointed. May God receive his spirit into eternal love.

We welcome you to come to the church 9am-3pm this week to sign a book and leave your sentiments, condolences, and memories.

At this time, the family deserves our prayers and time to rest. I ask that we give them that time, as we are able.

I will always remind us that because of the work God has done for humanity in Christ, love never ends. Please pray for Carolyn, Emily, Dan, and all of Grant’s family. But I must also end with the assurance Grant has poured into our hearts across his ministry: “We are an Easter people.”

Today, by God’s will, our Pastor has become one of Easter’s newest and eternal residents.

God loves you, and so do I.

Late > Never

Just in time for your Friday viewing enjoyment, we have last week's (5/31) Sunday sermon available. Have a great weekend. We will see all y'all Sunday.

Psalm 8
Genesis 1. 26 - 31a
Why are you the way that you are?

05/26/2026

Here is a sermon re-preach from Pentecost Sunday, May 24.

Opie: Pa, when is the [Holy Spirit] going to show up?

Andy: I don’t rightly know son. We’re not on the planning committee. We’re on the welcome committee.

It is casual Tuesday and since we had just a blip of a technical difficulty here is a recorded version of Sunday’s sermon.

Acts 2. 1-8, 11b-21

On these graduation days, best wishes to these graduates. God bless the class of 2026. Thanks for letting us be a part of your faith journey and your life. It is indeed an honor.

Wherever you go and whatever you do, God is with you, God loves you, and we do too. Grateful that Christ calls us together.

To paraphrase a benediction we share quite often:

May joy and nothing less find you along the way because it is looking for you.
May you be blessed and oh may you be a blessing.
And may love’s own light, may love’s own crucified, risen light guide me and you and countless others all the way home because those who are most home most earnestly seek those who are least home.
