I came into this Lent thinking it would be my best Lent ever - more fasting and sacrifices than ever, more attention and focus in prayer. Well that didn't happen! What did happen is an exultant experience of worship, a feeling of nearness to God both in prayer at home and services at Church.

Instead of straining to drink in every word of every Lenten prayer, I have tried to simply fix my attention on an icon of Christ or the Theotokos and pray as best I can. This has led to an unexpected experience of more joy and hope, a fuller surrender of my "stuff" to the Lord and a greater abandonment of my will to God in worship. Miles to go or course, but at least I can say that I got a taste of what is possible, which gives me hope for the future!

I look forward to this Great and Holy Week in hopes of being as free and empty as possible so that I can receive all the blessings God has for me.
