On June 19, 1865, a national holiday known as Juneteenth, peace on earth inched closer to the kingdom of God's goals. 🙌✝️
For a people who were traded, beaten, and oppressed in every sense of the word, a monumental step forward into freedom + peace was taken. ⛓️💥
Jesus acknowledges in his teaching on the Mount a direct correlation between "blessing" and those who "work for peace," and ultimately describes those who work for peace as resonating with the person of God, thus being called "children of God."
"God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God." Matthew 5:9, NLT
Today remembers a moment of action that accelerated toward peace for Black people + communities in our nation 160 years ago, and a shift toward full peace for more of humanity; peace and freedom are kingdom principles we must engage in as children of God. 🕊️
May we celebrate Juneteenth with our Black sisters and brothers today, but also push forward in our peacemaking as children of God until the actualization of His kingdom is experienced by all people. ✝️🤲❤️🌏
