WAITING FOR AN APOLOGY THAT'S NEVER COMING? READ THIS.
Some say you don't have to forgive someone unless they're actually sorry. They need to apologize and name what they did.
And it's fair to like it when people own their stuff. But it drives us crazy when they never apologize for the actual thing they did.
Maybe we hold that view to keep from letting people off the hook. But if we wait until they're sorry, we'll go to our grave bitter.
This is the devil keeping us from being more like Christ. Instead of waiting for an apology from the people who nailed Him to the cross, Jesus did something different.
Luke 23 says, "Father, forgive them, for they don't know what they're doing."
It might get your goat that the person you're holding an offense against doesn't even know they hurt you. But that was true with Jesus too, and He forgave them anyway.
So here's the weight of it: It takes minimal grace to forgive when someone's sorry. It takes maximum grace to forgive when they're not.
