THE REAL CAUSE OF THE IRANIAN CONFLICT
This past week, the funeral was held for the leader of Iran who was killed by an airstrike several months ago at the outbreak of hostilities with America and Israel. Several million Iranians demonstrated throughout Iran. They demanded a “global Jihad and for every Muslim in the world to rise up and exterminate Christians and Jews.” They demanded the murder of President Trump and the extermination of the United States and Israel, and a coming worldwide Muslim caliphate. This war began in October of last year when Iranian proxies, Hamas, attacked Israel. These terrorists murdered or r***d thousands of citizens, kidnapped hundreds more, and beheaded babies and burnt children alive.
The most appalling and shameful response to all this murderous conduct is the distorted assertions of brain-dead radical Democratic politicians, along with the claims of apostate theologians and preachers, and the obvious lies of traitorous teachers in tax-supported colleges that the attack was justified. These groups insist that Islam and “Christianity” are equally good, true, and equally beneficial.
It is claimed that 20 years ago, then-President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, stated in an interview that he experienced a supernatural experience during a speech he gave at the United Nations. This revelation offered a glimpse of fundamental Islamic beliefs that have animated Iran’s total leadership since the overthrow of the Shaw of Iran. These beliefs have profound implications for global mayhem and destruction.
This speech wasn’t just the boastful claim of a deranged or insane political figure seeking attention; it reflected a deeply held theological conviction that shapes Iranian policy at the highest levels. It is the mandatory belief taught to Iranian children from their earliest school attendance.
Iran’s leadership adheres to a radical interpretation of Shia Islamic eschatology centered on the claim of the imminent return of the 12th Imam, known as the Mahdi or the “Hidden Imam.” According to this teaching, the Mahdi disappeared in the 9th century and will return in the last days during a time of chaos and upheaval to establish global Islamic rule.
What makes this belief system especially vile and particularly dangerous is the conviction held by most Iranian leaders that they can—and should—hasten the Mahdi’s return by creating the very chaos and conflict which are to precede his appearance. This apocalyptic worldview provides a theological and political justification for Satan’s instability and chaos—Not only in the Middle East but around the world.
For Biblical Christians, understanding this theological framework is essential. While we await the return of Jesus Christ, Iran’s leaders pursue a demonic false messiah [most likely the Antichrist] that demands aggression against Israel, support for terrorist organizations, and especially, the pursuit of nuclear weapons capabilities.
The contrast between Christian hope and Iran’s apocalyptic ambitions couldn’t be any clearer. Christians are called to be peacemakers, to pray for our enemies, to win souls, to trust in God’s sovereignty over humanity, and to be faithful unto death. Iran, by contrast, embraces a theology that glorifies martyrdom, celebrates war and conflict, and seeks to impose religious rule through violence, deception, lies, and intimidation. Iran’s constant pursuit of nuclear weapons takes on an even more ominous dimension when viewed through the lens of their eschatological beliefs. Iran’s leaders have repeatedly demonstrated that their apocalyptic theology is not mere rhetoric—it shapes their strategic calculations and long-term objectives.
Iran’s continued support for terrorism, its threats against Israel, and its defiance of international norms regarding nuclear development all flow from this demonic combination of radical theology and political power. It will not end until Christ ends it. For Christians, this reality underscores the importance of standing with Israel, supporting and insisting on a strong American defense, and recognizing the spiritual dimensions of ongoing conflicts that secular analysts often reject.
Scripture, prayer, and obedience to the Lord remain our most powerful weapons. We must pray for the protection of Israel, for wisdom for American leaders, for the safety of Christians throughout the Middle East, and even for the Iranian people themselves, who suffer under a repressive theocratic regime that has destroyed their nation’s existence in pursuit of a demonic messiah.
The Iranian leadership’s belief in hastening the return of their hidden imam stands in stark contrast to the Christian understanding of Christ’s return, which will happen according to God’s perfect timing, not through human manipulation or violence. Christians are called to be ready for Christ’s return, to live righteously, and to spread the Gospel—not to create chaos in a misguided attempt to force God’s hand.
As tensions continue to simmer in the Middle East, understanding the theological convictions that drive Iran’s behavior becomes increasingly critical. The false messiah driving Iran’s murderous regime poses a threat not only to regional stability, but to f freedom, faith, and human dignity that Christians hold dear.
